I could not agree more with the October 13th posting. I have repeatable tried to get involved in my daughter's class room, even presenting an Exon incentive to her teacher which would give her money in exchange for my volunteer work. Every time I was ignored or shunned away. The children get 15 min. a day for recess, but if they are not up to par with their work for the day, they HAVE TO SIT OUT!!! They just started giving K-5 DETENTION for being tardy 6 times or more. This is the parents fault not the child's. Fundraising is pushed and students are even taken out of "quality class time" for fundraising assemblies to hype the kids, but they started to short all areas like holiday parities, etc., because they said they do not want to take away educational time. Very hypocritical. Students as little as 6 can walk home by themselves and the car pool line consist of displaying your child's first and last name across your window. We witnessed a child being attacked by a dog and a little girl was hit on her bike with a CAR! One sub. could not read the dismissal paper, because she could not read English. There is so much more. All in all, I took a job to pay for private school.
This year was a very disappointing year of witnessing what teachers were allowed to get away with. It was very stressful as parents and all we can hope is that we never experience it again.
Am I the only one who finds the staff at Roth stand-offish? Most prior comments are very positive, but my experiences have been largely negative. The school counselor is excellent, but most of the rest of the staff seems miserable, and they never seem pleased when a parent takes an interest in his child's education. A maddening characteristic -- teaching at the learning rate of the slowest students. The district can do far better. Also, they need to stop the near-continuous fund raising. Trim the bloated district administration and there will be enough money to run the schools.
We have been thrilled with Roth Elementary. The teachers and staff are friendly and caring for the kids. Mrs. Dristas the principal genuinly cares about the children having a great learning atmosphere as well as fun with music and art. The coachs are wonderful caring teachers. The parents seem to really care about the school and its students.
Both of my children have attended Roth and Im happy to say that they are finished. The principal, asst. principal and teacher turnover rates are huge and the parents are expected to do most of the teaching, since the students and teachers are so overwhelmed with expectations from Klein School District. The teachers freely use cell phones during school hours and surf the internet on a regular basis. Roth doesn't offer computer classes to prepare the students for junior high expectations. There is not a playground for kids over 1st grade, so they have recess on the concrete parking lot. Where does our tax money go?
Roth is a wonderful school with a passion for teaching and sincere concern for the well being of their children.
I think that Roth elementary school is a very nice, homely enviroment for my kids, except for one thing. I think they need to think of the kids being dropped off early in the morning. Teachers arrive at 7:50 and doors open, to my understanding, at 7:40. There is no supervision for those kids whose parents have to be at work at 8am and their kids are left outside until class begins at 8. Is there any place on the campus where they can be supervised until class begins?
Roth is an exemplary school with great attention to the students. My daughter has gone to Roth for 4 years. Her teachers have called me at home many times over the years just to go over her progress and talk about the plan for her success. My daughter really enjoys it there and has loved every one of her teachers. There are many activities and the PTO program is great. I always feel very informed about everything that is going on at Roth and in the community.
This school is excellent!! We recently had to move out of state from here and miss it terribly. The principal, teachers, and the staff are great. The parent involvement is wonderful. You always feel welcome no matter what the studies of the day include. Learning is the main focus at this campus so sports and such are pretty much nonexistent.
