As someone who has worked with Harmony for 8 years, I can say that HSS is an awesome school, with a great vision. Every year our campus has gotten better, and it was a good school to begin with. Harmony isn't just a school, it's a community.
Those outside of Harmony often make uninformed judgements about the diversity of our school and assume that it is a bad thing. They don't understand that the diversity of HSS is one of our greatest assets. Harmony's safe, caring, and collaborative environment has encouraged the development of an unusually advanced cultural literacy in our student body. Over the years, I have seen proof that our learning environment and advanced training have been powerful enough to lift generations out of poverty, provide jobs in new industries, and build bridges of communication that can surpass language or cultural/religious barriers. In the past 8 years, many of my students have graduated and I have seen the change Harmony has made in the lives of their families. I may be optimistic, but I think the adoption of a Harmony model for all public schools might be a great step towards world peace.
If you want to see for yourself what we are all about, please call the school. Schedule a tour. We would be happy to show you around the place and answer any questions you have. You can see for yourself what makes us different, and why so many families are excited for the chance to choose Harmony.
All Harmony teachers are required to obtain training and implement best practices in the classroom. Good teaching reaches all students in a class, not just some. Gone are the days of "park & bark" lectures where a teacher delivers a monologue while kids furiously write notes. Instead, our classrooms show students leading their learning experience through project-based learning. This framework operates similarly to a scrum/agile system for education.
We have a great admin team. They work around the clock to keep everyone in the loop, and respond to staff & parent concerns. We are not perfect, but our processes and internal policies are getting pretty close.
Harmony offers Character Ed classes that encourage students to explore and discuss topics like integrity. It's programs like National Elementary Honor Society encourage students to become leaders by volunteering in their community and showing respect for the environment.
As a teacher, I understand Harmony's policies. All homework is relevant to a student's growth. Additional copies of assignments are also provided electronically through our online database portal in the event a student loses their paper.
The teachers have been very committed and effective. Teachers have come to our house for a home visit and my son was so happy to see his teachers come home. The teachers go above and beyond for our children.
As a parent nothing is more important to me than to have my children go to the best school in the city and have the best education. The Principal, Assistant Principals and Teachers are doing just that for our children.
