Our kids were out and that is why there are spots for your kids in. Parents raise the voices for school get a chance to improve, not for those who take personal matter.
Like all other schools, HSS is not perfect and sure does needs alot of polishing when it comes to thier policies and procedures. Inspite of the negativities, i still believe that HSS is a better school if not the bestt. I just happen to see more pros than cons with this school. This school continuosly strive to give the best they can for thier students and i strongly support them. Im just wondering why some parents continue to talk against this school and yet they still have thier kids there. If they don't believe in the shool, they should pull their kids outright. rather than prolonigng thier agony and complain all year long.
I don't understand why people rating this school so negatively still have their children going here. They seem to have a problem with the administration being Turkish. My child has been going here for 2 years and I have no complaints. I also have another child enrolled in a 9/10 rated public school and I can see the difference between the 2 schools. Harmony challenges the kids more...yes there is more homework and that is a good thing. I wish some of these people would take their kids out so my other child can find a spot here.
I moved my kids from Harmony School of Innovation to HSS in Sugar land because it was very close to my house and their rating was 10 until early this year. The teachers of my kids are really good this year but I am very disappointed with administration. To pick up kids is huge issue. It takes you atleast 35-45 minutes to pick up 1 kid. I was picking up my kids from after school one day and some one blocked the car by parking right behind us. There were a lot of empty parking spots since it was around 5pm. Finally that person came back after 10 min and we were just stuck there for 10 min. That person was one of the teachers from the school and when I said that you should have parked in proper parking . Her answer was so what are you going to do? Are you going to tell Principal? Go ahead and do what you want to do? I was shocked when I hear that and my kids were listening that too. I even went to Dean of Discipline and her first answer was I am very busy. I do agree with comments of other parents, the school is going down hill. I am thinking about taking my kids out for next year. My advice for other parents to do your home work before applying for this school.
this school is terrible, the rules are to strict to the point that they restrict students from doing things like blink. The lunch is also terrible, they don serve real beef, chick, pork, or bread. Everything about there lunch is to bad. My son had to get his stomach pumped three good times because he couldn't stomach the food, and he isn't allergic to anything he also threw up a couple of times at school. The fact that this school is being funded by a different country sounds fishy to me if i was given the choice to decide if they good the 5000 dollar prize i wouldn't give it to them in a heart beat. These people don't know how to run a school, and shouldn't have been given an opportunity, im sure i speak for every other parent when i say that they should be shut down.
I absolutely cannot stress about how ridiculous this school is. Starting from the absolutely absurd rules to the community, staff and administration. I'm about done with this school. Parents, if you are putting in to consideration of putting your child in here, I advise you to not. They will not like it here, it may seem like a "great" school at first, but it's not. They keep asking for money and more money. To "support" the school and for things we don't even need. They don't even put the money for actual good use. I strongly dislike this school. This is just my honest opinion. Please take my review into consideration.
The teachers are doing an okay job, BUT.... Other then that, nothing is good about this school. The administration does not seem like they know what they're doing. The "rules" restrict students from expressing themselves and are completely over the top. The dress code policy is pathetic and the staff call out on the students for complete nonsense. As for courses and electives it is given at a minimum and it's so unorganized. The only language choices are Turkish and Spanish, but my child was put into Turkish instead of Spanish. Why does the school teach Turkish? It cannot be used in "everyday" life. I understand it's the beginning of the school year but it's ridiculous how my child had to wait two weeks for her schedule to be "official'. At first it wasn't even completely filled in until a few days. After the teachers passed out the syllabuses and started giving work to do, they switched her schedule AGAIN. Now she has different teachers. That means different syllabuses and she has to start from scratch again! This is a very poorly developed and unorganized school. I do not recommend this to anyone. I guarantee that your child will not like this school for a list of reasons.
This school was absolutely terrible. I enrolled, hoping for a good education, but most of the teachers are foreign and hard to understand with their thick accents, the rules were too strict for the students, and there was too much work to handle. I was constantly stressed and under pressure with this school. Not to mention that I'm pretty sure that the lunch served there wasn't in check with the nutrition guidelines. Absolutely terrible school.
As a former student at this school, I would like to say that while academics are okay, the fact that the school forces you to take classes such as PE every year bothers me. Also, freshman are allowed to take AP Human Geography, which is, in my opinion, a bit too hard for students entering high school; therefore, they are not completely sure which classes suit the levels of the students. Also, students are forced to share hallways with middle school students, which can cause problems with the maturity of the students. I feel as if the school spends money on useless things instead of on education such as an expensive refrigerator and a personal water filter for each of the teachers' lounges. On another note, while some teachers are great at teaching, others seems like they lack a teaching degree and sometimes enforce discipline for little things. A large majority of the teachers are Turkish and although some of them are great teachers, it is hard to understand what they are teaching and that may cause for some of the students to miss out on learning opportunities. The school does an okay job at reinforcing them but some of the rules are, indeed, a bit strict.
I am a student of this school and I have to say this is the most pathetic excuse for a school ive ever attended. the administers are not capable of handling a school, it is very unorganized and does not seem as if they have planned, the rules set on the students is really restricting is to treat us as children, the administers do not understand what it is like being in America and their customs, the goal of high school Is prepare the students for college and the life after high school, but it feels it as if they are preparing us for high school. the education is not as great as the school makes you believe it is. if you are a parent that is deciding to enroll your child in this school, I advise not to. If you don't believe what I said is true, ask any other student of this school and hey will all say something similar to my review
I would like to deeply thank to the people who don't like school and removed their kids from this God sent Harmony Schools system. Because of these people I have been able to enrolled my kids. I know it hurts to see government funding reduced for the public High school because there is a new school in town. I am thankful to have my kids removed from the filthy culture of public high school. People have discriminatory attitude towards the administration because they are Turkish people but this is exactly why I have my kids goto Harmony. They work on character building and have dress code and little girls don't look like little tramps running around. Keep up the good work Harmony, some of us who value traditional value of this country will be always behind you.
I'm disappointed in Harmony High School Sugarland. The teachers are great, but the administration is not familiar enough with American culture and customs. We have decided to move our child to another school.
Horrible school! The past administrators left to attend the new high school and this has been the most unorganized and unprofessional year. In addition, we were true advocates of Harmony but our experiences this year have left us disappointed. I would not recommend this school unless you like headaches and dishonesty.
I am a parent of a student who goes to the HSS High school but they do not appear on great schools therefore I choose to write on this blog. Do I think the school is good? Absolutely, or else my children would not get an education here. This high school is fairly new but their staff is doing an outstanding job. Everyone takes pride in being a part of this school, the students, the teachers, the administrators and us parents. The school staff is like a family and they care for our children like their very own family and I love that about this school. The teachers are so committed to their students and toward their responsibilities, it is just amazing. The women at the front office of this school are inviting and cheerful. Not only is the staff and secretaries of this school very amazing so are the young leaders of this school. The Principal is a young astute man and has great dignity and is so gracious while the very young lady who is the assistant principal is his pillar of support and is quite suave herself. Both leaders are instrumental in leading this school. I am at the school often and enjoy the school climate, the friendly secretaries, promising staff and adept school leaders
School administration is unorganized!!! Enrollment process is very frustrating. I'm glad I decided to remove this school from my family's list of options.
My children attend Harmony School of Science and I have to say the leadership of this school is remarkable. The Principal and Assistant Principal of this school know what they are doing! The Principal is forever devoted to our children' success and I feel very comfortable knowing my children are entrusted in his care. He is very judicious and inspiring to the children and us parents. As much as I believe the Principal of this school is most excellent, I have to say his Assistant Principal has a lot to do with his and the school success. She is a young, fresh and vibrant personality, full of energy and always full of smiles and humor. She is very firm yet loving and caring toward the children and gets the job done. I have dealt with her on several occasions and she is very professional in how she conducts herself. She knows what she is doing and how to get a grip on the situation. She does not easily give in or make exceptions and that is what I respect her for. I stand in the school lobby often at dismissal and observe her manage the students, parents and teachers all at once without difficulty. The two make a great team. I am very happy with this management and school.
No school is perfect and neither is ours! I have worked at other schools and have friends who currently work at several other schools in different ISDs. The leaders and staff of this school work diligently to create a positive school climate which affects everyone associated with the school- students, parents, staff, administration and the community. This school does not claim to be perfect yet continues to strive toward perfection. All teachers on this campus are either highly qulaified and/or certified or in the process of completing certification. If this school is truly what this very unhappy, bitter teacher claims then this school would not be doing wonders and retain a very committed and dedicated staff. This school would not have at the least a couple thousand students on the waiting list. As Ian Percy once said We judge others by their behavior. We judge ourselves by our intentions. It is important to judge your very own intentions before you judge others.
My wife is a teacher at Harmony School of Science for couple of years so I am indirectly in tune with what happens at the campus. She has only good things to say about the school, staff and administration. Recently there was lot of hullabaloo regarding plagiarism by the Principal, which was honestly a total immature move by some of the teachers just trying to attract attention. If there are so unhappy why don't they get a job somewhere else, Oh! Wait a minute there are no teaching jobs out there. Rather than being thankful of being giving an opportunity to impart education they rather waste their time posting negative comments about the school and administration, they should strive to make their class and school a better place and get more success at TAKS. School is ranked very high on discipline; lot of emphasis is giving on home work. I strongly recommend sending your kids as I can see our kid s graduating from this school as a much better individual and prepared to take on challenges ahead of the college and work environment.
The leadership of this school is lacking in ethics. The principal recently out a plagiarized email, claiming another's words as his own. The administration discriminates against women, especially mothers. Many teachers do not have a teaching certification, or even a college education in education/teaching. The school is disorganized and chaotic.
I would not recommend this school to anyone who doesn't want to get into a state college because: 1} Turkish populated school, students and teachers, I'm not even sure most of them have teaching degrees. Mainly go to Turkish events. 2} Horrible Lunches- some Turkish company 3}No extra-curricular or sports or clubs. No, wait there is a club: Turkish Dancing Club 4} Waste-Of-Time classes like Character Education, half the time they don't even have a teacher and just sit there talking 5} Cheating and Plagiairsm runs rampant through that school, I don't even think some people are learning anything. 6} Tiny school before you even think of enrolling your child look at the hallways during break, there is like 200 people in a 10 foot hallway trying not to be late to class 7}Even if it is -10 degrees outside they stay strict on the no jackets inside the school because they want us to look the same. 8} UNORGANIZED- so unorganized Those are all I can think of right now but there is more trust me. There are tons of better schools in Houston.
