We are new to Dickinson this year and what I love most so far is their high leval of expectation from the students (i.e. pushing the accelerated reading goals a little higher than other schools, a little more homework than we've experienced at past schools) as well as requesting daily accountability from parents, who are required to sign off in their child's daily planner each day to notate that they have reviewed their child's homework and what book and how many pages their child read the night before. If the parent does not sign off, the child loses recess privileges that day. As a parent, I love this accountability as it has made me more involved in my child's daily work but also has made my child a more diligent daily reader (she knows I won't sign her book unless she actually reads) and it's also made her more responsible for her school papers and backpack content each day. Keep up the great work Dickinson teachers!!
Best parts of the school: their 'specials' teachers for art, music and a wonderful PE teacher. Caring teachers, only a handful of teachers that are below standard. Worst part: a principal that is very unapproachable.
I have a son in Special Education, the Principal , Ms. Mumphord, addressed his issues in a very specific, timely and helpful manner, she organized a team of professionals to assist him for the school year. I am impressed with the way she handled his case.
The school is excellent. I find the teachers to have a lot of eperience and are attentive with my daughter. I moved here from NJ and find the school system to be far more advanced.
this school is a great school . there is a great amount of diversity. the teachers are great and heplfull
I was not overly impressed by the school. Some of the teachers are incredible while others just do what they need to in order to get by. I have found the administration at this school is swayed by elitism. Meaning she wasn't into the children from the poorer neighborhood and she let the kids and the parents know this by her attitude.
I have found this to be a great school. My daughter attended kindergarten last year and she loved it. Her teacher was so friendly and open about what my daughter was good at, and what she could use help in. She really learned a lot and could read and do basic math by the middle/end of the school year. All the staff was very helpful. The gym teacher was very involved and they really make sure the kids learn about good health and taking care of their bodies. The art and music programs are great as well. There is also a lot of opportunity for parental involvement. An all around excellent school with a great curriculum, and fantastic teachers.
