TEC could be a great school, but it lacks 90% in extracurricular activities! It also does not encourage any social interactions between the students academically or just to make friends. My child seems to just get bored and does not want to go to school anymore. The principal is nice and does interact with the parents. Lets just say the 9th grade teacher pretty much makes students want to withdraw. I'm considering withdrawing my child and sending him to the colony high school.
Beware! This school puts on a good face but does little in the way of teaching your child. The teachers we have experiences with were wonderful! It is the lack of support given by administration that makes this school a failure. Little concern is given to the individual child and communication does not happen between parents and those in charge of making decisions. I would not recomend this school
To say I am disappointed in this school would be an understatement. Teachers seem to not care and communication is rare. If you send your child here Beware of what you are told up front. There are good kids here but there are also a lot that for various behavior reasons have been removed from public schools. If your child a self learner this might work for you.If not there is little one on one with teacher. Beware. I have removed my child.
We are new to TEC this year and I have been nothing but pleased. Each of my children have gained knowledge and confidence in their learning ability and look forward to school each day. They teachers and leaders in the school know the kids by name and are truely invested in their future.
The Kinder First Grade teacher in The Colony is phenomenal. Not only does she make teaching look easy, she makes learning fun. My child came home talking about bossy e's and squirrel jumps. For those of us who went to traditional schools that is silent e's and number line counting. Not to mention skip counting in kindergarten the kids are learning to count by 2,3, and more which is the basis for multiplying. Her phonics and reading foundations are exceptional. My child finished kindergarten reading higher than half way thru first grade. Now she makes me slow down in the stores so she can read the signs and if I try to tell her so we can be on our way she tells me she knows and can do it herself. Thank you Mrs. Fisher.
This is the best school my child has ever been to. They require more of the student. It will look better with a min of 80 on a test than a 70. They has great staff members. They take the time to teach the student. The teachers have more time for the student because they limit the kids the let in the school. There is only up to 20 kids in a class room and that is for up to 3 grades. Dont let the small size fool you. They have everything that a regular public school would have. They are a charter school so they require a uniform. They have a very good lunch program. They give the kids a choice of diffrent food places every day. It includes subway to taco bell. They have foot ball and volley ball for sports. This school makes things work for you.
The Lewisville location has questionable leadership. The first principal quit 2 months into the school year. Also, the after school program is poorly run. The children are not supervised very well and allowed to wander out of sight of the people who should be watching them. Security at the school is non-existant as anyone can walk around the school at any time. Also, there are people working there that exhibit questionable behavior around children and should more than liekly not have contact with them. I have removed my child and would not recommend this school to anyone.
My two children had a fantastic year at TEC. My oldest son was being ostracized at public school because of his ADD--primarly from his own teacher, even though he made a 100 on the TAKS. However, after moving to TEC, his ability to focus as well as his own self-image improved significantly. He looked forward to school everyday instead of dreading it because of his teacher's kindhearted focus on the childrens' achievement! In addition, his younger brother (a kindergarten student) had a wonderful teacher who helped him successfully aclimate to his academic studies. Although he did not attend preschool, this child was on honor roll all year. I am thankful that TEC has acquired wonderful, inspiring teachers who truly have the best interest of the children at heart! I gave 4 stars because I believe that a staff member should be outside during drop off/pick up at all times--something not done.
I believe this school has great potential and truely helped my child understand her material better to get the grades she wanted to convey to her future college. She has never gotten better grades and I truley owe it to this school.
I am losing hope that this school has potential. I have seen no leadership. I honestly believe that, 'The best interest of the child is not the primary concern at this school'.
