This is my child's first year at Collins. I have been impressed by how seamless they've made the transition from elementary to intermediate for the students. My child loves the teachers in the LC and the orchestra teacher. I've had three interactions with the front office staff and have no complaints. I think some parents want to be overly involved and it seems like they don't want the parents to linger around like they do at some schools, which I can appreciate. This might lead to some negative reviews, but on all three occasions the front staff saw to my need at hand, dealt with it, and I moved on with my day. The only thing I'm annoyed with is the PE teacher. Daily laps around the school just seems a poor use of PE time and doesn't encourage kids to be active with fitness. We live in a beautiful area with well funded schools. Surely the PE department has fun equiptment for the students.

I have lived in The Woodlands for 9 years and have heard consistently negative reports about the front office staff at Collins. My oldest is a 5th grader this year, so I experience it myself on a weekly basis. There are no smiles, no manners (no please, thank you, have a good day). They are both as RUDE as can possibly be. This gives the school a VERY poor initial impression. The art teacher is OUTSTANDING! The PE teacher makes PE un-fun (the students frequently run laps around the school). How about some new fun games? The class size is larger than I prefer (26) this year due to the budget cuts in Texas. The textbooks are old (2000)-but, for science, this is good. The math textbook is newer and online! The school newsletters are negative (Don't, Don't Don't), but the LC newsletters are very informative. Fortunately, my daughter likes her teachers except for PE. The library is quite nice, except that is very poorly lit. Parent Involvement is low because it is not encouraged. If your child goes to Collins, I highly recommend getting a backpack with wheels. I weighed my daughter's backpack - including lunchbox, water bottle, 3" binder and book--15 lbs!

Teachers were adequate. Office staff was rude. Entire 5th grade teaching staff quit the year after my oldest went there. Principal was and is unqualified and is reliably nasty to the children and parents, as was the vice-principal. My oldest went there and his grades went from Bs & Cs down to barely passing. My youngest will not be going there. We moved so she wouldn't have to go there.

The teachers are excellent HOWEVER the office staff is as rude as can be. They will not acknowledge a parent (and I have witnessed teachers and other staff being ignored by them) Unwelcoming and extremely curt. The Principal is not willing to listen and is convinced her view is the only view. The only explaination for this excellent rating is the teachers. They save the school and are hardworking and dedicated. It's a shame there are people employed to work in direct contact with others and have the least amount of common courtesy or welcoming attitude.

Collins is wonderful. It's tucked into a nice neighborhood close to David Elementary that feeds into it. When your kids go here, you feel great about where they are all day. You know the staff and administrators are closely watching the students' development. It's small enough to get special attention for those needing it but large enough to get the best teachers.
