If you want your children to know and love God better, this is the school for you! I'm a graduate of Good Shepherd, now getting my degree at the University of Texas at Tyler. The twice a day chapels at the beginning and end of the day provide a unique atmosphere to the school culture. Father Banek, the headmaster, dedicates himself to keeping the school culture a safe environment that challenges students to serve the Lord by serving other people. His life is a great example of service. So many parents and teachers are involved in the students lives in and out of school because they truly care for children. (Nobody works there for the pay, they do it because they know the importance of a godly education for young people.) If you're looking for athletics, or AP credit, there are lots of high caliber athletics programs in Tyler, and TJC classes can be taken as a part time student in high school years. The debate program, run by Sara and Roy Maynard is top of the line. They taught us to skim large documents for useful information, analyze the legitimacy of sources, and use logic to construct arguments. Without GSS, I would be much weaker in my faith, and a less joyful person.

This is the best school we have ever been associated with. Academics are top notch and an atmosphere of respect and decorum is cultivated along with a deep love for Scripture. Its been around for 30 years and is very established in the way it operates. So blessed to find it.

My 4 yr old son is currently attending this school and is loving it. This second semester he started reading books. He comes home every week with a new book that are reading. He is also doing very well in math, adding and subtracting, counting by odds, evens, 5s, 10s. Everyone who see's what he is doing is amazed. The class has only 8 students, which gives them alot of 1 on 1. I would highly recommend this school, expesially for pre-K.

My daughter attended Good Shepherd in Pre-K two years ago. She now attends public school and is at the very top of her class in all areas. I feel her start with education from Good Shepherd is why she has excelled so much - she went to kindergarten already reading!

great school, great academics. The classical method of education is a time tested, proven approach to learning. It teaches students how to be 'lifelong learners', a skill that is neccessary to succeed in any endeavor in life.

Academic curriculum far exceeding my expectations. The school is small so this may be a deterrent for those interested in organized sports. Parental involvement is always encouraged and appreciated.

Good Shepherd has the best classical education that can be found in this area. If you are looking for extracurricular activities, many are offered in the community, outside the school.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
