This school has been a terrible experience for my child and for myself as a parent. We moved from a great school where we experienced no problems with grades or behavior. After a year and a half at Weatherford, I was called into the office, where the vice principle and counselor suggested to me that my child seek behavioral help (i.e. Ritalin.) I thought this was a rash decision seeing as how I'd never even been called before. That's when they informed me that my child was being sent to the office on a semi regular basis, without even having a note sent home. I asked why I wasn't notified and was told they only involve parents as a last resort. A few more incidences occurred before I withdrew my child and enrolled in a different school where my child's "behavioral problems" seem to have magically disappeared.

I was very disappointed with Ikard Elementary. The teacher/parent communication I experienced was horrible. I would write to my child's teacher in the assigned area in his notebook and would note get a responce back about important things, such as transportation changes. I had to contact the principal on many occassions when situations arised. My child was spanked without my permission, not following the rules in the handbook on the steps and guidelines when spanking. He was spanked simply because he kept saying no, calmly while sitting in chair. Inside of calming him down or trying to speak to him, he suddenly was spanked. My son got hurt twice while at son. Once in the classroom that led us to spending the evening in Cook's Emergency Room. Overall Ikard failed my child and I moved to place him in a different school. I would not recommend Ikard to anyone.

are very biased and as a parent you have to intervene. If you don't live in a certain neighborhood, they place you in lower skillset class and are not given consideration for parts in school plays

I think this schools administration needs help. All they do is sit in their offices and make acusations against children. They need to be taken out of office! This school is soooo far behind academically that it is rediculous! I would suggest taking you children elswhere if you have a choice!

Academically this school is severly lacking! We moved here in the middle of the school year from Chicago and my daughter who was a little above average in Chicago all of a sudden became the genius of her class! She is in kindergarten and none of the other students can read or do basic math beyond 1+1. She never has any homework and complains that all they do is go to recess all day! They are learning things that she learned when she was 3 years old! Other than the fact the the children aren't learning anything I guess the school is okay. Nice staff...

Good school but should have things for kids to do on site to help them at home.

Ikard is new and still working out the kinks, but is, overall, a good school with dedicated teachers and staff.

It has alot of potential however it needs someone to ensure there are checks and balances. Someone needs to ensure there is equity among the opportunities for all the children not just the PTA presidents and volunteers children. The volunteers carry allot of weight with the staff for some reason. While I agree their time put into the school should be recognized, give them a plaque or certificate instead of giving their children the special projects and opportunities. Some of us have to work for a living. I know of several children bypassed for opportunites and were crushed and deflated because they could not understand why the same kids were picked over & over again & they were not. They did not understand the rules of the game. Also, class distribution is not evenly distributed either. Some teachers got the high risk kids and some get the PTA officers and members.

The school allows the volunteers to influence acadamics. Too much politics here. Need to set an example and provide opportunites for all the kids not just the rich ones.

I wish I had wonderful things to say about this school. I am a very active district volunteer. I have children attending Seguin Elem., Tison Middle and the Ninth Grade Center as well as 3 step children attending Ikard. I have always been welcomed as an involved parent and staff assistant except here. Everytime I have ever come to this school to pick them up, attend class parties or school carnivals, to bring them their forgotten back pack etc. I have been greeted by rude office staff and teachers. I have never once been greeted kindly or been made to feel like I was a welcome parent nor have I seen any of the staff members make any other parent feel wanted or welcome. If this school keeps treating the parents this way they will never build the kind of school that sends strong confident children on into the world! School/parent relationship is priceless!
