I am a grandmother who has a granddaughter that goes to Barrow Elementary. I was really impressed with the way they interact with the students and parents. The security of the school and students is superb !!! Kudos to the Barrow Elementary Staff !!!!

We are a military family and whenever we have to move between duty stations we always come home. I have had four of my children attend Barrow at different times and they have always really enjoyed the school. Every teacher I have encountered at Barrow has been awesome! They even remember my oldest from when he was in Kindergarten and Fourth grade, he is about to be a sophomore in high school. I personally think Barrow is an excellent school with a more community based atmosphere.

I feel that Barrow Elementary has fallen behind on what is important for the kids. The teachers are tired and do not enjoy teaching the children, thus, the children are left behind. There is too much conflict in the administration/teacher area. The principal is suppose to be the boss and the teachers try to be the boss. I am not happy with Barrow at all.

I would like to say that moving from San Diego Ca. when my oldest was kindergarten age, I was worried about the school he would attend. I have been very pleased with Barrow Elementary and its staff and teachers. The PTO is very active and the teachers are terrific. The campus is new and upgraded and we are looking forward to the new Junior High that was just opened this year. I would have to say that Barrow is the best school in this area. My boys are proud of their new school.

Barrow Elementary is a new school in the Columbia-Brazoria ISD. It has teachers who cares about their scholars, with instructional leaders with great vision for their school. The school's motto is 'Focused on Children', and they work very diligently to be focused on what is best for kids. They are also focused on improving instructionally, and they have implemented Interdisciplinary elements that gives our scholars the tools to be system thinkers and problem solvers. Barrow has an active PTO, and parents are authentic stake holders in the school decision making process. I cannot say enough about Barrow and how much my family has enjoyed the teachers and principal.

About the tests


In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
