My son is in his junior year at KAPS. He had attended Hays HS his freshman year but when we moved to San Marcos just before his sophomore year, he and I decided to give KAPS a try rather than enroll him at SMHS due to my severe reservations about the high school in San Marcos. The small class sizes attracted me - he couldn't be lost in the crowd with only six to twelve students in a class. He loves KAPS. He came home almost every day saying how he loved the school - this is something I haven't heard him say since kindergarten. His grades improved dramatically. He delighted in going to school and quickly became involved in the diverse after school program. The staff is wholly supportive of the students, the new teachers as well as the old. Diversity is embraced rather than disallowed. He still says he loves his school ons nearly daily basis. While the school is certainly not for everyone, it has been a God-send for the both of us as we'll as for many of his classmates and their families.
I'm a freshman here at KAPS, and it is amazing here. Not much drama, not so many people, be who you really are. They are not mean and horrible like public schools, if you're an outsider, you'll fit in great!
KAPS is all about the students and helping them do thier best. The whole staff really cares about each and every student Best decision my daughter ever made for her education.
I have known several students go through Katherine Anne Porter School and go on to do well in college. I plan on sending my kids there in the future!
I moved here from El Paso and love this school. My daughter enrolled in KAPS after going to the local H.S. for a short while. She said the teachers actually cared about her grades and her future and knew who she was, which they didn't do in the 5A school back in El Paso. Here at public high school they didn't even acknowledge her because she was new and not from around here from the start. KAPS has an after school program that helps in tutoring and community service as well as sports and other programs. It is a Public Charter School so they have to raise the money for everything they do. What I love the most is that it teaches your children to give back to the community and take responsibility for your own actions, and rewards you with grants and scholarships for all the hard work you do. They are always trying to find ways to help the disadvantage or any students get an education no matter what back ground you have. KAPS goes above and beyond to help any family, not only from Wimberley but for all the neighboring counties! I only wish they had more schools as caring and nurturing as KAPS all around the world!!!
It is a great alternative to regular public school especially if your emphasis is academics, arts, music and NOT football
KAPS has been a beacon and a huge benefit to many families in the the central Texas area, by providing a creative educational environment for kids of all types, allowing them to flourish.
both of my daughters have attended KAPS since 9th grade and are now a junior and a senior. KAPS is wonderful to the students. It is geared toward diversity and allows the students for growth and expressing themselves. The classes are small, allowing for special attention. KAPS being a charter school is always having funds cut and depends on fund raising etc...to keep its doors open. Students from surrounding cities attend this great school. KAPS would utilize this reward to help meet some basic needs and not spend on anything wasn't needed.
My daughter recently moved from the local high school, where she was having difficulty with grades and fitting in, and now she is a different person. Her grades are wonderful and her attitude has improved 100%, she loves going to school now.
Katherine Anne Porter School has small classes allowing students to thrive and love to learn. The school allows creativity and the students want to attend.
The teachers are awesome, the classes are great learning enviorments, and the whole system makes you think insted of just droning on and on. It's a really wonderful school.
Katherine Anne porter promotes the arts as well as regular curriculum. They promote education not look at it as if it us just a state checklist of things to do.
this is the best school i have ever been to, the teachers have a better communication than other schools, because the classes are a lot smaller than isds
I can't say enough good things about this school. I was nervous because it seems to attract kids who don't function well in traditional high school environments (or have been kicked out!), and while that applies to some, there are also a lot of very creative, unique kids. It's a very strong community with a lot of school spirit. The teachers are unbelievably dedicated, and the administrators are involved and helpful. Quality of education depends largely on the efforts of the child and parents. They have amazing classes and a lot of great learning pportunities, so if a kid doesn't come out prepared for college, it's not the school's fault. If you're an involved parent with a child who wants to succeed and grow in an environment where it's safe to be what you are, KAPS is ideal.
it is a unique experience for your child to learn about the world around them.
