I am the mother of 2 Cyprus Pirates, 12th and 9th. I have found this school to have some great teachers. The staff from the new principal, counseling, front office and other support are happy to be working with the kids. Some of the kids think the grass would be greener at an other school, but generally there is a good school sprit here. Father & Mother of 2 great kids.
Cyprus High School at first glace is a little rough around the edges: but the compassion of teachers, community support, and pride in the students' hearts during games or on just a regular day is incredible. This school is wonderful and I recommend it for students desiring to attend.
They have the highest in graduation but are struggling with book and literature
I agree. Teachers honestly do not care whether you go to class or not. You can get away with pretty much anything, and its wrong. There is NO disipline. There are some teachers who do care, but most of them don't. This is why our test scores are so low. Most students don't even learn anything, as well as even go to class.
Cyprus is not that great of a high school i was a student that went there and i left to go to another school because the students. The teachers are just as bad they only pay attention to the jocks and preps there are some teachers who are very good and do care. But most of them dont.
I absolutely loved my experience at Cyprus. I think that it is a wonderful school, because of the wide range of academic opportunities, the wholesome environment and the excellent teachers and staff. It was great to attend a school with such a long history.
I am extremely impressed with the value of staff and support at Cyprus
I am a parent of pirates. My daughter graduated from Cyprus with 38 college credit hours both AP Tested and Concurrent Enrollment, my son graduated with 32 college credits and both have taken the highest math. They both had wonderful math teachers and their english teacher prepared them so well that their essays written in college always rate high. The history class in their junior and senior year was outstanding. One carries a 3.90 grade point average (this is her fourth year) in medicine and the other carries a 4.0 (this is his second year) in criminal justice/science. Their education at Cyprus was excellent. I have several family who have children attending other schools and my children are the only ones to attend college and my third child has begun his junior year with AP classes. He doesn't know it yet, but he's way ahead of those 'rich' schools. Thank you.
This school is in some desperate need of updates. The tech labs, and computers are just about the only things that are up to date. We dont even have good desks/chairs/tables, and we can definatly use air conditioning in the upper floors at least!!
As a parent who is not a former student. I find that parental involvment is strongly encouraged at Cyprus. I have never noticed a lack of funding and if there is a lack, it certainly doesn't limit opportunities. My student is part of the music program and I can tell you this group has national recognition beyond the school systems. They have been personally invited to perform for some impressive national venues. The level of commitment I have seen from the teachers is truly extraordinary. As for the one comment who stated that the school wouldn't support parental input: that is unfortunate and untrue. I haven't agreed with every decision a teacher or administration has made, but I can testify that when they disagreed with me, they had the best interest of the kids in mind.
I am a former student of Cyprus, and though I did get tired of the high school life, I loved Cyprus. The teachers were extremely helpful, and supportive.
The administration of this school does not accept parent involvement, the principal ignores all comments from the parents, I give them a very poor rating.
I am currently enrolled in Cyprus High School. My personal opinion, Cyprus is genuinely a great school. The school pride is unbelievable! Also, having experience first hand with this school, I know how involved the teachers are and how much they truly want their students to succeed! I wish more parents would be involved and help their student to understand how important these years of high school are to their future. We all hear it, but truly, they are. Overall, Cyprus is a wonderful school, just not well funded.
I am a current student at cyprus high school and the care that each teacher has for their student is outstanding. This will be my 2nd year attending cyprus and i find that our cultural background and our multicultural experiences make us more diverse and tolerant than most other schools. I love cyprus and just because we don't have the best athletic or academic programs, we are trying each and every day to rectify that, and that makes me proud! go pirates!
As a former student and parent of Cyprus High, I have a very strong opinion of Cyprus. Although Cyprus is not a rich school the students are rich in school pride. Many of the teachers are former Cyprus Students and there is a strong sense of pride that everyone feels. The students at Cyprus and the Teachers are down to earth and know what it is like to have to work for everything. I got a great education from Cyprus High School, and I am proud to be a PIRATE!
Cyprus High School is probably not the most funded school that I have had experience with but the teachers and staff that I have come to deal with have been very knowledgeable and very friendly. They are very concerned with my students well being and general education which is very important to me. They provide a website that I can monitor my kids' grades and attendance and between myself and the school, I feel that we are guiding the kids in the right direction. The facility is clean and organized and, in general, a very suitable educational environment for my kids. Thanks Cyprus!
I'm actually a past student. It is a good school for what resouces it has. The problem with this school is it's poor. One year, our french/esl teacher got a better offer, and left. We have to have an ESL teacher, but not french. We could only afford one teacher. So I had to bus to a different school to continue to learn french.
The teachers often try hard, but parent involvement is not very common. If there was more student cooperation, perhaps the school would be better. My overall opinion of Cyprus is that it's okay, but it's definately not the best.
