I am going to disagree with the other parent. They're full with 35 boys and they have their hands full however .. SRR has a few things no one else has. River, horses, ranching, all boys, an auto shop - in the middle of nowhere and an auto shop. REMEMBER parents .. troubled teens are NOT EASY and they lack lack esteem & skills to manage anger .. half the battle is just getting these boys to settle down, clear their brains so they can start to think clearly while drug & alcohol free. Everybody wants 'more structure' & 'more schooling' & 'more therapy' .. but remember .. teen BOYS don't respond well to that structure. Better to put them on horses, send them to the cattle auctions, work in the auto shop .. and give them opportunities to bond with the abundance of men there. THAT is the benefit. Yes the academic staff is overworked but parents, this is not Harvard or Berkeley. REMEMBER why you made this decision in the first place and keep your expectations in line with your goal. If your son comes out and can manage his anger and function back in his high school or with the family .. SRR did the job you wanted done.

With too many troubled youth, the teacher is overloaded. They don't ensure the kids keep up with school work, so when kids get behind then at the end of the quarter they have to try and catch up in 2 weeks. Grades suffer. There is no parent involvement. The school doesn't have the resources to respond to all the parents. Our kid was on his own and we couldn't help.

This residential program is basically a warehouse for youth, most staff DO NOT have a college degree and the teaching methods only work for kids that are self directed and would do well in any environment. Most tutors barely completed high school themselves. Do not use this residential / school program, there are better ones for a lower cost. Most of what they claim they offer, the majority of kids do not get. I left the staff due to their unprofessionalism and unhealthy tactics of working with youth.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
