Dee Elementary is an awesome school. While as recent as three years ago, the school struggled, recent changes have really turned around the education at Dee. There are some great teachers. The focus is on helping each student learn. The kids are incredibly well behaved as they line up and show respect. Walls have been added in the classrooms and this has helped. We're excited that a brand-new school building is being built around the corner from Dee. If you're thinking of sending your student, make a visit. The old reviews aren't accurate anymore, so much has happened. TV news has even reported on the turn around at the school.
I didn't appreciate hearing my Kindergartener come home and tell me that they were constantly told to be quiet and do their work, or to be quiet, hurry up and eat their lunch. Even I witnessed teachers in the higher grades grab kids by their arms, get in their faces, and told to keep their mouths shut. I feel these teachers need more training in handling the students and situations properly. I was very disappointed.
I have a child with behavioral problems. Due to job transfers we have moved around a lot. Even since he started at Dee his behavioral problems have increased. He is now terrified to go to school. He was doing great in his last 3 schools. Dee school doesn't have a good special ed program. But they do have great teachers.
The staff at Dee Elementary are superb. 78% of the population are Hispanic but they are very welcoming. There are no walls on the classrooms, so it can be challenge at first for the kids to get used to. The school does a great job of helping the children who are struggling in school but because of the need for high test scores, they focus more on bringing up the children who need extra attention. There is little to no parent involvement, but hopefully they can get a PTA in there to help out soon.
