Payson High is a pretty solid school, but not outstanding. I find it amazing how many students and teachers ignore the bad things going on in the halls and classrooms--they don't enforce policies about swearing, public displays of affection, respect, and many of the other district/school rules. A good percentage of the teachers are excellent, however, and if you're careful and know what you're doing, you can excel, even at little podunk Payson High. I don't like how many of the students are so apathetic here, though. 'You won't be anything if you go to Payson' is the accepted view. Therefore, they don't even give a half-hearted attempt at becoming anything at all. They destroy possibilities. We're stuck back in the days when only farmers' kids went to Payson, and grew up and became farmers with more kids. Not a bad thing, but apparently teenagers see it that way.

The administration does not do their job at all. The teachers run the school. The older teachers stick to their old ways and most of them do not care. You know it's bad when the students notice that the administration and some of the teachers don't care about them. I would really like this changed. The new teachers are doing great and some of the older ones are great too, (like Mrs. Bridges) but those who are just there to finish and retire, don't do much and we know they don't care. I thank those teachers who do care.

Don't get me wrong, I think there are many wonderful things about PHS. My low score here is mostly a reflection on the failed potential of this school. PHS suffers from serious apathy on the part of its faculty. The faculty holds all attempts at improvement or reform in contempt, and this is reflected in poor test scores and outcomes. What is needed above all else is an attitude change on the part of the faculty.

I am a senior of PHS and love it. It has a wide variety of extra curricular activities ranging from drama to DECA to bagpipes and FFA. The teachers are very personal with the students. We have a great basketball team and jazz band! The languages include Japanese, ASL, German, Spanish, and French. Our school spirit is really high over all. Although almost everyone has the same religion and ethnicity there is alot of diversity in cultures. Music is a huge part of our school. Many students play their guitars and sing during lunch. I love Payson High School! PHS Lions are # 1!! Satisfied Student
