I understand that "unschooling" is a big trend, and having homeschooled my own for many years, I can see the ideology as well-intentioned. However, having witnessed the school "in action" and the sad results of the students, I am shocked by what the state allows this "school" to get away with every day. I have gone to the school to speak with an adult and more than a few times, there was not an adult to be found on the premises! Also, upon entering the school (a made-over house) it is dingy and dark, with few art works on the walls, an empty fish tank, and disheveled children wandering around in their pj's or zombi-fied in front of some violent xbox game (when asked what they read that day, they said they don't read!) I have no personal grudge against this specific institution. I would hope a place like this could foster more creativity and resources to make up for its lack of direction and standarization. No wonder the kids love it. No body makes them do ANYTHING -- not read, not explore outside, not listen to beautiful music, not ask questions, not shower!!! It's just a glorified homeless shelter for kids whose parents have given up or don't care enough to see the truth.

Sego Lily School is an amazing community of families, staff and children. We are so lucky to have this model of education available to us in Utah! My own children are thriving and free to pursue their passions and be successful, happy people in life! If you are looking for a school where children are trusted, respected and valued for who they are, this is the place!

Sego Lily is the best "school" in Utah! I went there and I loved it. They let us learn how we want, when we want. No pressure, no drama, and no homework. I learned more about real world stuff then I ever have. I fixed a bike..... that's something I would have never done in what is considered a "normal" school. Sego Lily made a great impression on me.

This has to be the worst school in the entire Salt Lake area. It is owned and run by a woman who allows the children to teach themselves. Her 'teaching' method is self-indulged at the very least and produces a small classroom of children who don't feel they need to do anything.bu watch TV in order to succeed in life. This school is not accredited in any way and most of the 'teachers' have no teaching background. There is no structure, no lesson planning, no books, no nothing. Mostly the children hang out on the computer watching YouTube videos. It should probably be shut down and cited for child endangerment.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
