This school used to be much better than it currently is. The Dir. has 5 1/2 yrs experience total in education. ELA is the only school she's worked at. She worked at a gym before that. It shows! We have way too many inexperienced teachers now. ARL can work, but ELA kids shouldn't be guinea pigs for people who think they want to make a career change but have 0 classroom experience. Teachers in a grade don't work together much, either. 1 teacher will do cool supplemental programs/activities and the others in that grade do nothing. If you don't get the 1 on the ball teacher, your kid gets gypped. We are frustrated and looking elsewhere.
Been here since 2009. Used to be a much better school than it is now. Been going downhill over the past 2 years. Had a good mix of clubs & extracurricular activities that covered sports, STEM, fine arts, & humanities. The 7 habits used to be an integral part of the school year. Loved the strict clean cut dress and grooming code, which has now been relaxed a bit. New dir. & asst. dir. are both rather inexperienced & unfortunately, it shows. Many replacement teachers aren't licensed, & brand new to teaching - never worked in a classroom before, no student teaching, nothing. Hirings have been rather hit & miss. Fun after school clubs are mostly gone. New teachers don't seem interested in stepping up & sponsoring clubs like the previous teachers were. The current board seems to be steering the school more into being a fine arts school. It's great to include fine arts, but it seems like at ELA it's being done at the expense of everything else. Sad to see a once awesome school slip downhill into mediocrity.
Early Light Academy is a great school. Many of the close by Middle Schools do not include many school sports, but Early Light Academy has many options to choose from. There is also many fun classes to choose from. Some of the fun classes include creative writing, stage crew, theatre, choir, art, spanish, and so much more! Early Light Academy also does a big school play every year. The play's include children from K-12. The middle school is one hallway with 10 classrooms and grades 7-9. And the elementary is a two-story building with grades K-12. The two buildings are separated so the Middle School students can have some privacy from the Elementary students but when it is lunch time or Physical Education the Middle School students have to walk to the Elementary. The two buildings are not very far apart though. The ELA sporting teams are very good and extremely fun to participate in. Another great thing about ELA is that there is less students so the teachers have more time to spend helping each individual student. The one thing that isn't so great is the uniforms the student's have to wear(excluding some special schooling days). But overall this school is amazing!
We LOVE this school. I have had 4 children attend ELA. As with every child, we have had a few personality clashes with teachers, but they have been very approachable and we were able to work out the differences. I have been very involved with the Parent organization and the things we have been able to do for the school are wonderful. We are watching the kids grow from the experiences. The open door policy with the administration is wonderful. They make you feel like your opinion really matters. LOVE LOVE LOVE this school.
I have six children that have been attending ELA for over three years. We have been so delighted and impressed with this school! Our children have never been happier about going to school. The school uses K12 curriculum for history, science and art (as well as the Great Artist program. We love all the extra-curricular activities. We love the innovative learning techniques, and we love the excellent teachers!
Our kids are attending ELA for a third year because they are learning great things & they really like their school! I'm amazed at how the school has retained a huge majority of the same high-quality teachers for the first 3 years. This school really seems to break the mold on what a charter school can do. There is a huge parental support system in place & that is also making a positive impact.
My kids love to go to school everyday! love the uniforms. love the healthy lunch options without preservatives & fructose. love the teachers who go the extra mile to show these children how to learn and live.
There are so many programs and extra activities for the students to participate in. There are art classes, choir, guitar lessons, Tanner Dance, many sports teams(more each year). There is a German club, Science and engineering club. The depth of the history education is unmatched anywhere! The Kindergarten students study the entire globe, in depth, on their level & it is brought to LIFE! All students K-9 have 2-3 thoughtfully planned field trips per year. Really, fun, amazing things are happening here! Every teacher is wonderful, and cares about each student & the school community as a whole. The school community is very strong, wonderful PTO program and leaders. The principal is wise & a good example and motivator for everyone. There is an incredible amount of parent involvement. The test scores speak for themselves as far as academics, and that was only the first year! The school musicals in cooperation with SJ theater are first class! The school building itself is run on solar power, which shows the schools promise to the future of children. This school is going to produce artistic, motivated, culturally aware, kind, thoughtful members of society! GO ELA!!!
