this school is just horrible never let your kid go here the teachers are mean

My son was locked in a dark room for 40 minutes! He was six years old and in the first grade, He has Aspergers. His teacher became frustrated at his inability to understand an assignment. My son was afraid of her because she yelled at him constantly and punished him daily. Thus, he did not ask for her to explain the assignment. She told him that of he did not complete the task that he would have to remain alone in the classroom while every other student went to lunch. He did not complete the assignment so she shut the lights off and ordered him to remain in the classroom for the duration of the lunch period. His fellow students told me that they saw him sitting alone and sad in the dark. She tried to say that it was an accident and the principal Beck y Gerber backed him her false version of the story. The teacher had sent me a mean e-mail in response to my asking her of her version of the vent. She had admitted in the e-mail basically what my son said happened. Nothing ever happened to the teacher and the principal. There is not a doubt in my mind that the Jordan School District is clueless as to how to work with children with disabilities. They punish the undesired behavior.

I was not impressed with this school at all. 1-In 6th grade my daughter had a teacher who spent most of his day asleep instead of teaching the kids. I emailed EVERYONE I could. Called the principal monthly and nothing was done about it until I called Get Gephardt. The teacher is actually not teaching there anymore. 2-The school psychologist and the teacher spent over and hour encouraging me to put my ADHD son on medication. It seems medicated kids are easier to handle.

My special needs son went to Westvale, and he was bullied horribly. His IEP was not followed, and the principal was not willing to work with us. When we discussed the bullying with the teachers, we were told that he was simply in a class of tough kids, and there was nothing they could do about it. My son's class had very low parent involvement. Most of the parents in the neighborhood who are involved with their kids education have pulled their kids from the school in favor of the charter schools in the area.

Teachers and staff are caring. They put their best efforts towards making sure children have the best opportunity to get an outstanding education. The students show respect to one another and their teachers. Westvale is a good place to raise kids to be responsible citizens and successful adults.
