This is a fabulous school. The principal is a kind, ambitious leader who has empowered his colleagues to create a welcoming, challenging, empathetic environment. Dual enrollment classes are ubiquitous and they have just started Academies within the school itself. We have a choice of high schools and BUHS has been a great one.

This is a serious educational institution. Every student gets challenged to do their best and will graduate with the skills to be successful in life.

Buhs offers a wide range of opportunities. A great education is available for students who push themselves to go far - yet a student who wishes to disappear will. Buhs offers classes from AP college level to the extremely basic. If you don't graduate it has no reflection on your intelligence, merely your laziness. BUHS has a wide variety of classes for those interested in various postsecondary pursuits. The school has an gigantic art department(Which I never set foot in) band, chorus, dance and theater programs. It offers advanced science in Bio, AP Physics, although I'm disapointed to have only been able to take elementary chemistry, the program is small. The math dept offers everything up to AP calculus, in two formats- a traditional and a problem solving based meathod. In the sports sector, BUHS offers almost everything... Overall, I enjoyed my expirence at BUHS immensely, and will always say: 'Viva the Colonel'

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Vermont used the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in reading and math, grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing and grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The NECAP reading, math, and writing tests are given in the fall and test students on content taught in the previous year. The science portion of the NECAP is administered in the Spring each year and has its results released the following Fall. As a result, GreatSchools' ratings for Vermont currently reflect 2012-13 test results, the most recent year with data for all subjects.

2013-14 state-level results are not available for the Vermont NECAP; please see here for more information.

The NECAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Vermont. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level on the test.
