After the staff pushed to remove my mildly autistic child from the I.E.P that he needed. It was not long before his grades dropped considerably. When we advocated for my child to receive just a little more attention from the 6th grade staff. The teachers were defensive and unprofessional. My child's grades dropped even more. We did not receive any communication from the staff until the report cards came out. report cards did not address academic issues. It seemed like they would take one test and the quarterly grade was based on that. We asked about it only to receive more attitude. You could tell there was little compassion from the staff to the children and they were just going through the motions. Staff either seemed like they were ready to retire or they were young and new it all. Either way it did not work. If your kid sis in the main stream this school may be fine. If not steer clear. My child was barley passing at Derby and is an honor roll student in junior high this year. Same Kid, Same Parents. The Principle has this vacant look during the meetings he attends. And did not seem to address my wife at all. She called him creepy.

i loved being at this school i learned so much from so many of my wonderful teachers. every teacher here cares about every student. the teachers i had here are my most favorite and i will remember them forever. there are so many programs to help kids meet their grade level expectations and to help kids get passed them into harder material.

We moved into this district from out of state and have been very disappointed. This school seems to be focused on getting every student to be average. There are limited opportunities to excel. Very littel sporadic 'enrichment' and not enough science books for all the students. I would not move here again

My two oldest children have attended Derby School for the last 3 years, one grades K-2 and the other grades 1-3. I have been very happy with the quality of education that they have received. They have had very compassionate teachers and have exceeded their own grade levels since the first year attending school. Parent/teacher conferences are held 2-3 times per year and parent visits are always welcome. I would rate this school THE BEST in the district. The only negative that I can find is it will be hard to find another school that compares to this one when we relocate to another district in the future!

We have had excellent experience with Derby School. There has never been a problem that was not worked out right away. There is a very connected sense of community here. We feel very greatful for the level of commitment from the teachers and administration. There are many opportunities to explore within and beyond regular school curriculum. We have no qualms when we put them on the bus in the morning. The kids come home happy, telling stories.
