I cannot think of a school with a WORSE administration communication system. It contacts you for bills, but when you need it most (i.e., if your child has a problem) they leave you completely out. No communication. Zero contact. Unbelievably, they actually claim that "they do not have any contact on file."

VA might not be what a lot of people call the best but to me its my home away from home. I love it up there and the people are great up there and the teachers are fun and wont disappoint in the classroom. The support there is amazing and you can get help anywhere you go and the learning skills department is one of the best.

Vermont Academy helps students become lifelong learners by emphasizing all there is to learn outside of the classroom. This place is truly a gem.

I love that no matter where you come from, no matter what language you speak, no matter what car you drive, VA opens it's arms and brains to you! It has been a gift to my son and me - I'll be forever grateful.

Up at VA, we have a really great campus. It's beautiful... we have trees planted along the walkways that connect our class buildings, we have woods around us (in the fall, the colors are amazing), and our fields are nice and green. The buildings themselves are also really great... the dining hall has huge windows that give a great view, and the classrooms are always comfortable and have windows. The classes are nice, since we have small sized ones, and the connection you get with each teacher makes learning all that easier. We offer lots of sports and non-sports during each season, there's always at least 2 plays every year, and our art programs are really cool! VA is the best! XD

I am the parent of a student in her second year at VA. The school has provided my daughter with the structure and encouragement to perform at her best academically. She feels like she is a part of a very close-knit community and that the teachers have her best interets in mind as they teach. The Learning Skills center has been fantastic in helping her to develop confidence in her abilities as well as good time-management skills. In the warm atmosphere at VA, she has improved her soccer playing ability and even played on the JV ice-hockey team. This school is best for the child that wants to be known and encouraged to succeed, who may not have received the personalized attention in the public school environment.

VA is unique. It offers small classes, loads of structure and plenty of support for those who need it. The faculty care about the students academic and social well being and follow through on this in ways that promote the habits and values it wants to see students develop so each one can really become the best person and student he/she can be. Its a great place.

I graduated from Vermont Academy in 2002, and was a day student there for the entire four years. VA works best for students who thrive in an intimate atmosphere and can benefit from a close-knit community. One cannot easily 'fall through the cracks' here. Students are required to participate in at least 2 sports a year, and if they do not opt for a third, they must do an after-school activity. The faculty at Vermont are extremely attentive and caring, and will push students to work to their full potential. Boarding students tend to experience a more structured learning environment (mandatory evening study halls), but may gain additional privileges through scholastic achievement. The advisor system is extremely strong, and student body is generally very close. I had a wonderful time attending VA.

I go to VA now but am leaving at the end of the year to go elsewhere. If you're with the right people, it's an awesome school. Campus is pretty and small. Arts program stinks but playing hockey was awesome and definatly a new thing for me. One thing I know I'll miss is the strong adisory program. You meet with your advisor (faculty member) four times a week and become friends with them. VA also has something called Winter Carnival which takes place mid-winter when everyone is usually grumpy. It's a time when everyone is caring/havingfun. There are events like ski jumping, where anyone can try, to broom ball and twisted versions of dog-sledding. You compete by dorm floors and every one dresses up in a theme.Thisyear'swasSaturdayNightFever-Disco!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
