What sealed the deal was our son's assessment of the school after a shadow day. He said that the teachers create an environment where the students want to learn. In math for example, the teacher didn't simply hand out more worksheets when they finished early. She was genuinely excited about their learning, not inconvenienced by it. On the ride home our son said that it didn't feel like a regular school day. He said at the end of the day he had more energy than at the beginning. Now that he has been there for a semester we see the substance to back up the promise. They attract talented teachers and let them run. The students are talented. Their excitement plays off each other to create a great environment for learning.

Our son loves VCS! The level of learning at this school is amazing. The teachers are caring, innovative, engaging, challenging, flexible and intelligent. The level of commitment these teachers have is truly remarkable. Our child loves the fact that the classroom teaching style is non-traditional (and so do we!). We also enjoy the fact that VCS uses the environment as part of the students' learning experiences. The exposure to the various encounter weeks is icing on the cake for our son! Yes, the workload is demanding, but the love of learning that our child is able to nourish makes it all worth it. The faculty is very approachable and welcomes suggestions from students as well as parents. VCS is well worth looking into for your child!

My child has been at VCS for two years and we are very pleased with the decision to send her there. Small classes, great teachers, interesting field trips and they take the students on three Encounter Weeks each year to wonderful locations. My daughter is challenged, loves school and appreciates that her teachers really care about her work.

I value the leadership as forward thinking and the teachers are dedicated to each and every child at VCS. My son LOVES school and it is because of his teachers -- they create lessons that challenge and encourage him as a student!

As a member of the administration at Vermont Commons, and as one who worked in higher education for 20 years, prior to joining VCS, I feel fortunate to work in a community that is filled with such motivated and academically talented students. Combined with our dedicated teachers and small classes (average size of 12) and a rigorous curriculum, VCS is a great place for students who enjoy learning amidst other who enjoy challenge in the classroom.
