A extremmely difficult school board to deal with. Very confrontation in public and in private. The NECAP scores for the school and the district are low and have historically been that way. The district admin. will not address.
A significant drug and alcohol problem in this school. Each year there are arrests for this issues. The school has had years and years of structual neglect, while a very, very weak school board ignored the issues. The community has little to no understanding of the decay and moral rot, and the ANWSU district office/leadership is old and significantly behind in their thinking. I feel badly for the students coming out of this school as their will not be adequately prepared for the real old outside of the Vermont state boarders.
I have 3 out of 5 attending the high school and the middle school and I would rather they attend another school. The teachers in the MS are great yet the curriculium does not prepare them for highschool mid-terms or exams. This is geared more towards a non-college prepapatory acedemics. Exploratories versus classroom. No curriculim/syllabus handed out for classes for sexual education for the parents to review when asked and for the highschool the teachers rely on the electronic submission or grades without the "real time entry/"being a factor when parents look at the grades when they can get into the system. There is a lack of written correspondence, verbal correspondence when your child is struggling and rewarding kids whom act out with treats or candy when they have been "good" for a period of time. There are some teachers that really do care about the kids though. Wish the administration would practice what they preach about Dress atttire for all as some staff dress inappropriately and do not send student home for violations of the dress code
Vergennes is a small town with big community spirit! We have the best music program in the state-award winning band and chorus and annual school play directed by former Broadway performers that make this school extra special. There is also a rowing team that competes on Lake Champlain in the fall and spring. In the past two years, the school has had a teacher that won "Teacher of the Year" for the state of Vermont. I am so pleased with the academics there and the dedication of the teachers!
This is one of the best schools I have gone to. And trust me I have gone to a lot ( a lot like 8 of them) and this is the best one out of all 8. The teachers care and whant there students to work. There is a lot of independince here but i you need help they will help you. there are awsome extra cirricular activitys that you can do and there is a thing called voke. Voke is were students that are on a iep or anyother thing can go and experince the things that the wont to do later in life. They also have these for freshmen otherwise they are only for hishschoolers. Middle school activites are limited. You can do clubs and sports. The teachers are fantasctic and I have had some truble with trusting teachers but you can always trust these guys.
