St. Francis Xavier School5

My oldest daughter graduated from Saint Francis Xavier in 2001 and had a very successful 4 years at Rice Memorial High School. She went on to earn two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Utah. My youngest graduated in 2014 and is currently a freshman at Rice Memorial High School where she is exceling. SFX prepared both of my daughters academically and spiritually. Probably the best thing about SFX is the caring staff and the families you meet whose number one concern is their children s education. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to go take a tour and or have your child shadow for a day.
This is a wonderful school. While public schools are being turned into test-prep centers, St. Francis is serious about "educating the whole person", mind, body, and spirit. Mind: the core academics are a great mix of rigor and creativitiy - hitting key concepts from a variety of angles. The students really respect the teachers, who are excellent. All kids learn French and Spanish, and the arts programs (especially visual & drama) are strong. Body: plenty of recess for the younger kids, PE twice a week, and sports programs. Spirit:the Catholic faith is not soft-peddaled, but is presented in a loving, creative way. Mass once a week, religious instruction daily, and teachers/staff who freely talk about their own faith/prayers. The kids are mostly well-behaved, from good families. Our older daughter has always been bright, but her confidence and motivation have soared since starting at St. Francis. Our younger daughter "shadowed" for a morning last spring before starting pre-k this fall. On her shadow day, she left the house being able to write the first letter of her name, and came home writing her full name.- after two hours, and not even as an enrolled student yet.
Our son has been at St. Francis since attending their pre-k program. He is now 9 and in the third grade. We love this school. We love the diversity of the student population, the feeling of community and the lack of class distinction. We love that the parents are so supportive of the staff and are so willing to help out in anyway they can. SFX really strives to ensure that the students have a safe and positive environment in which to learn. They work with the child who struggles and they challenge the child who excels. I rate this school 5 stars.
Our daughter has attended this school since she was 4-1/2 years old in pre school, she is now 9 and in 4th grade. If you are searching for a solid school who treats your child as a whole person being not only educated but formed into a respectful, politesmart and well rouded person then look no further. This school is outstanding, 'living and teaching in the spirit of christ', a wonderful and thorough academic program, amazing teachers and staff and music, art, religion, eductaion of the Mass, the Catholic faith, social interaction and respect for others is woven into all activities. Responsibility and real down to old fashioned values but with all the state of the art teaching tools. A plus.
