I am an educator by profession and I believe Maury is one of the best elementary schools in the National Capitol region.
I can truly say with gratitude and tremendous appreciation that the faculty and every staff member at Maury work especially hard to ensure that our precious child develops a love for learning. The student population is diverse and class sizes remain small by design our children s classes have ranged from 17-22 students. The school is located in the wonderful Rosemont Community of Alexandria and the playground is a gathering place for the whole neighborhood in the afternoons and on weekends. The PTA is very effective, and the school sponsors activities throughout the year including: math night, science night, social study night, art night, curriculum based field trips, etc. I am hopeful that our young kids will carry their Maury friendship with them throughout their lives.
Our two children continue to thrive at Maury School and continue to be excited about learning year after year. The teachers challenge the students in a positive way. The enlightened Alexandria City Public School System and Alexandria City Government provide great resources for a full range of student needs from talented and gifted to special needs. The soccer field could use some work but the school system and the PTA have an initiative to improve this in the next year.
Generally a good public school but with poor central administration. It's sort of assumed that you'll get all of your information from other parents. Very strong pta, which sponsors a number of great after-school clubs.
Maury's teachers and staff, the PTA, and the community at-large are all focused on the kids and their success in a loving, supportive, welcoming way.
Awesome academics, wonderful teachers, superb staff and a super caring environment. Maury surely meets our high standards!
We just enrolled but already feel so luck to be at this school. It's something special and once to enter you feel it.. The principal is amazing, teachers appear caring and well prepared, and the children are respectfully and orderly. They run a tight ship. Very loving environment which fosters a successful learning environment. I question some of the ratings on this website having moved from another elementary school in town. If find it hard to believe that their student body is testing as high as reported.
Maury is a excellent school. The staff took time with my child to make sure he was on track. They put the students needs first. Ms jackson really is a great leader. She is definitely taking the school in the right direction.
We love being a Maury family. Our children succeed in school and test above grade level. And all their friends live within walking distance
We moved to the Alexandria so that our two kids could attend Maury Elementary. Maury is what attracted us to Alexandria and is part of what keeps us living in this wonderful community. Maury has top administrators, top teachers, and motivated parents; as a result the students do very well.
Maury is a terrific school. I can't imagine a better place for our children. I question this web site's methodology if it doesn't give Maury it's highest possible ranking.
Maury is an amazing learning community with involved parents, engaged and happy kids and skilled teachers and administrators. We have been a Maury family for several years and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great elementary education experience for their children.
Our daughter and son thrive at Maury School. We find the school to be well-funded and the educators to be highly skilled. It is hard to imagine a better learning environment or supporting community.
We think Maury provides an outstanding education for our children. We are particularly impressed with the quality of the science and math instruction. However, the basic classroom instruction has our child (and most of their classmates) reading at a level which is 1-2 grades above expected.
This is our third year at Maury and we are very happy. It is a very nice school community and active parents who work to provide access to programs for all students. All of the teachers we have had so far have been very good and the school has a very positive culture. My daughter loves it.
My goodness this site is out of date! Makes me question the validity of the other school ratings. Maury is an amazing school. You cannot walk in the door without feeling the tremendous love and enthusiam these teachers and staff pour into the kids. My daughter cries on days she is sick because she wants to be at school. Go to the play ground any evening and you will find highly educated, professionals who send their kids here instead of the local expensive private schools. The PTA organizes an incredible array of enrichment activities after school and the Campagna Center conducts on-site after school care there. We move this summer--so sad to leave Maury!
I actually opted IN to Maury and it was the best decision we ever made. It truly is a community, not just a school. Ms. Jackson is a beloved principal, by staff, students and parents alike! My daughter is in her fourth year there and each year we are happier than the one before.
My daughter transferred to Maury in first grade, and the instructional level has been significantly higher than in the private school she first attended. The atmosphere is perfect. The school is exceptionally warm and loving, and yet also well-structured. The students know the high expectations the school has for them; the fact that they also feel loved inspires them to strive and achieve. Parents are incredibly supportive of each other, as well as of the school. The Talented and Gifted teacher is incredible. I highly recommend Maury.
I love this school and so do my kids. They have been here since K and have learned so easily and enthusiastically. The principal Ms. Jackson is full of positive energy and love for the kids it creates an amazing atmosphere. All the teachers are great. I am thrilled my kids are going to Maury!
This is a terrific little school. It fell on bad times a few years back, and the test scores reported on this site are still a bit out of date, but don't let that mislead you. It's got a dedicated principal, energetic and talented teachers, and a terrific parent community. it's diverse, happy, and all in all just a great, old-fashioned, neighborhood school. We live a few blocks away and on any given nice afternoon, many of the neighborhood children and their parents can be found at the school playground or the adjacent park. A warm, friendly feeling. The children learn-- my kindergartner was reading well by the end of the year-- but it is not unpleasantly competititve-- low key, but good.
