I have lots of friends whose children go to Amherst and they have nothing but the nicest things to say about this school. They love the administration and feel their kids are getting and have had the best education. I asked these questions because I am a booster member and have great concerns for the kids. Yes, they have a great football program. This is a great school and has great community support as well.

My child is a student at ACHS. I have spent a lot of time comparing the high school to the surrounding school systems. ACHS is performing very well in the area of SOL testing and accreditation. The test scores surpassed many of the city schools. The school offers advanced classes, AP courses, Early College, and the Gov. school. The opportunities are there, the students and parents need to take full advantage of them.

My daughter is a student at ACHS. The teachers do a fine job as long as they like the student. There is alot of bullying at this school that is not taken as serious as it should be. If your child is an athlete they will do fine otherwise best hope they have very good grades.

I believe that the high school does prepare the students for college. If your child is not doing well at the school it is not because he/she is not in a good school, it is that they have legitimate problems with a subject or with the concept of school. And on the subject of the facilities at the school, know this, Amherst does not receive the same budget as the city schools do because Amherst is not a city. The county can not provide the school with the money it would need to make the whiners happy because it is a county school. If parents want to make the school better they would have to find a way to increase funds going towards renovating the school or building a new one.

Based on the reviews about the great facilities, what if your kid is not into football? So far, I have found the teachers to be great! I was relieved to find out that my childs classes have such a good ratio of teachers and students. I look forward to 4 successful years with or without the benefit of great football facilities...

People are wrong to think that the high school is anything less then wonderful! Of course there is a good football team, but this is a football county. The teachers adn all staff are just wonderful. I gradulated in spring of 2005, and I do miss going there.

I currently have a child enrolled at ACHS. Poor facilities? They have the best high school football facility in central Virginia. My child, who has attended private school in the past, (and unfortunately is not an A student) does very well under the guidance of their teachers.

This schools main focus is on athletics, and they did win state football. The students are not ready for college unless they go to governor's school or take college classes at Sweet Briar or CVCC. The parent support of the music and theatre programs are great but you can see by the lack of funding and poor facilities compares to other local public high schools( Glass, Nelson, Haritage) where the priorities are.

I graduated from ACHS in the spring of 2004, and the one thing that I absolutely loved about that school was the faculty, especially the guidance counselors and prinicipals. They were always very understanding and caring when problems came about. There are also some very outstanding teachers, without whom I may not have survived my senior year! My biggest complaint- the food! But in the bigger picture, the food is just one minute detail.

I have two children who graduated from Amherst County High School. Both graduated with 15-18 college credits and are currently in two of Virginia's finest Universities. They have found support from caring teachers and staff. The choral program is one of the best! The school's willingness to work with parents and students in a caring manner has improved 100% within the past 4 years. A big thank you goes to the administration, staff, parents and students who are helping make Amherst County Schools on of the best in Virginia.
