Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I'm a student at blacksburg high and i love it. the teachers are incredibly awesome and dont make students want to shoot up the place. they try hard to motivate students and the students all try to include everyone which they suceeded at. Im so glad i was able to go to this school. and they teach a ton of electives and languages not just what it says under extracurricular activities so check us out! GO BRUINS!

Blacksburg Highschool has wonderful, devoted teachers, great spirit, and aspiring diligent students. But we do not have a roof over our head since the gym collapsed in February. Parents, community leaders, students, and concerned citizens fight now for a new school to be built.

Our gym collapsed and our school has been closed. The local politicians cannot agree what to do next. We need financial help to build a new school.

BHS has had a difficult time over the years, however, the students, faculty, staff and BHS community have overcome the hardships with spirit and pride.

The excellent teaching in less than perfect conditions. The sense of community spirit and bonding in the face of tragedy ie the 4/16/06 VT shooting and the 2/13/10 gym collpse.

My husband and I went to Blacksburg High School, and both of our kids are BHS students. A large section of the school collapsed last February, and our county is reluctant to pay for a new school. Please help us replace our school!!!!!

BHS is a high school with a dedicated, hard working staff of teachers and administration along with an involved parent community. Our kids have a challenging and diverse academic curriculum at their fingertips. Success is theirs if they choose it.

It has always been a top-notch school in providing an excellent education for kids who tend to do very well when moving on to college. They recently had their gym collapse and are in some turmoil in deciding how to proceed (renovate vs. build a neew school)

I love Blacksburg High School, because my daughter goes there, my older daughter went there and I have 2 other children that will be going there in the near future. Also Blacksburg High School is in need of a new school, since the gym fell down in February 2010 and the rest of the school is not safe.

BHS rocks and as an alumni, and parent of a 9th grader i would like very much to see construction of a new building~ ours collapsed 8 months ago and funding is not forthcoming.

The children and teachers have such great respect for each other. They work together through the great times and through the really rough times (such as when the gym collapsed in the winter of 2010 and the rest of the high school building has been closed since). The county has been working, but struggling, to come up with the money to build a new high school. The students and teachers have shown enourmous courage as they focus on learning and character building during this very difficult time.

Blacksburg is a wonderfull community! Unfortunately our school gym collapsed in Feb. 2010 due to the large amount of snow on the roof. We were lucky no one was injured. Our high school students and teachers had to finish out the year going to school in the evening at the middle school facility, which is not large enough. This fall our community has decided to place the high school students in the middle school, which again is not large enough, and the middle school students are attending school in Christiansburg. An old middle school was quickly up fitted for the middle schoolers. Unfortunately this school is not large enough either. The students are riding the bus for an hour each way to get to and from a school that is not in our town. Our teachers and students have been very adaptable, and are working hard to make the best of things, but we need help!!

BHS needs to be rebuilt after the gym roof collapsed in Feb. 2010. We are in dire need of assistance, as our rural county is in southwest Virginia. Currently students are housed in the middle school and the middle school students attend school in another town..

Lots of great memories and friendships formed there. A shame our children are being shuffled around because the schools roof fell in. Help them with their future.

It's a vital part of my community, and my son and two stepdaughters went there. Unfortunately it was built upon karst out of substandard materials which resulted in its partial collapse. Consequently we need to either make extensive repairs or build a new one on a more suitable site.

Our community has been struggling to create an appopriate environment for 2200 hundred kids and their teachers since our high school gym collapsed 8 months ago. It has negatively impacted kids of all ages, families, and teachers. We are in the middle of a political mess and a power struggle to find the solution to our problems. Winning the money can only help.

In Feb. 2010, Blacksburg HS's roof collapsed. Middle school and high school children have been suffled around the county ever since because the county does not have enough money to rebuild the school at the moment. This school has not only it's teachers and students rallying behind it but also the community. Never before have I seen so many people show concern over the fate of a school as I have with this school. Despite not having a permanent place to learn, the students at BHS have not given up and continue to prosper by being some of the top sports and academic participants in the county!

Blacksburg is a wonderful community of people that care about education. We recently had part of our High School Collapse and the County Board of Supervisors says that we do not have the money to replace it! Our Middle School children are being bused to an old school in the adjoining town and our High School students are in our Middle School. Please help us build a new high school!

Blacksburg High is a public school in sw Va. it serves children of all ethinic backgrounds. The gym collapsed in Jan 2010. the Budget of the county does not have funds for a new building, and the students are being shipped 20 plus mile across town to a building that is not big enough.

The Gym roof collapsed a year ago, which meant the whole school is not usable, leaving the high school students with no school. The faculty and students pulled together and dealt with a complicated schedule of sharing the Middle School last Spring and now the Middle school students are being bused to an old school in a nearby city.

It is my beloved Alma Mater. Soon it will be my Son's High School ( he is currently in Blacksburg Middle School and is an eighth- grader) Last year on Saturday February 13, 2009 the Gymnasium Area of the 35 year old High School Collapsed within minutes the once 30+ foot tall gymnasium was flat as a pancake and the School building was deemed unfit for occupancy. The night before the collapse, the croos - town rivalry between Blacksburg High and Christiansburg High School Varsity Boy's Basketball game was observed in that very same Gymnasium packed with standing room only crowd cheering their respective teams. Currently the School Board and the County Government is in a head lock as to how to proceed. It is estimated to cost 25+ Million to repair the closed school, and as much as 50 million to build a new school on land already designated for a 'new' Blacksburg High School. And us parents can sleep better at night without fear of recieving that much dreaded call, ..." I'm sorry there has been another collapse at Blacksburg High School" This is a community that not long ago was challenged by the tradgedy that occurred at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2006. Please consider helping our school. thank you.

This school has offered my son the ability to take the classes he needs to prepare for his future as well as many extracurricular activities that have sparked his interest in new ideas. He has also had the opportunity to participate in sports which has kept him in good physical condition. I would recommend this school to anyone and have done so in the past.
