Just an average school...some gems here in teachers and students but not an overall cohesive school or mission. Staff does not reflect the economic or ethnic make up of the student body and this allows for a real disconnect between the two...it's a very 'I'm the teacher and you're the student old-school philosophy that permeates here. A true partnership with families to make their child's experience the best is not the mission here. The county also keeps adding students to an already full building...stretching resources and patience, which is palpably felt but every November...just a few months into school. Why are so many teachers just tired here?

MB simply gets "it". They know how to teach, treat the students right and run a school without making it a big deal. They just do it without having to brag and attract attention. This is the school that does it right. Their updated technology is top notch. These students want for nothing because the people in charge know what is important and what is needed.

Margaret Beeks is an excellent school with a diverse student body. It is a warm, nuturing, school with great teachers and a friendly staff. The students take Art and Music, and P.E. We have early reading teachers, and a TAG program. The students have few behavior problems. The PTO has over 50 volunteers that work regularly for the school. Most work outside the classroom, in educational enrichment programs, or special events.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests to assess students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8, writing in grades 5 and 8, and science in grades in 3, 5 and 8. The SOL tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.
