Academic focus and philosophy

Educational philosophy and approach to learning Tall Oaks Montessori School is founded upon the deep respect for the individual child. Dr. Maria Montessori, the Italian pediatrician and founder of the philosophy that inspired Children's Houses around the world, believed that children posses an intrinsic desire to explore, discover and learn about their environment. A Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared environment for learning. Our primary goal is to help each child reach his or her potential in all areas of life.

Social emotional skills development At Tall Oaks, students are taught to take pride in their work. Montessori students develop a clear sense of values and social conscience. Montessori consciously teaches students every day ethics and interpersonal skills from the beginning. Even the youngest child is treated with respect and dignity.
Math skills development Mathematics is introduced through concrete, manipulative materials which utilize all five senses and lay the groundwork for abstract thinking.
Speech development Beginning in our Pre-primary class at 18 months, children are introduced to Montessori concepts as they learn the satisfaction of completing a task and as they assimilate language and develop communication skills.
Typical day and activities The pace is unhurried in order to support the child in this early experience of independence from family. Activities are simple and suited to their need, interests, and capabilities. Children are introduced to Montessori concepts as they learn the satisfaction of completing a task and as they assimilate language and develop communication skills.
