Our children are thriving at Powhatan School. The faculty is excellent, and the education they receive is inclusive of not only strong academics in literature, mathematics and sciences, but with strong emphasis on the importance of art, music, sports, and foreign language. The community of educators, staff and parents are supportive, and there are so many ways to be involved and see all of the wonderful things that happen at school each day. The campus is beautiful and there is plenty of space to learn, work, explore, and play. Class sizes are small enough for focused learning in larger or smaller groups, and even for some individualized instruction when necessary. Our children are getting a well-rounded education intellectually, socially and emotionally and they love learning. We couldn't ask for more!
"My son works harder to prepare for Mathcounts, an after-school activity, than my daughter did for any public school homework in the same grade. Powhatan students are typically motivated to do their best and work hard.
Powhatan does not tolerate disrespect among students beginning in the youngest of ages. I recall my son's fourth grade teacher continualy reinforcing, "did we do our best work? did i let the goup down by not doing my best work?"
My son has had an absolutely wonderful experience at Powhatan in both Lower and Upper Schools. Powhatan does not tolerate bad behavior such as bullying and cultivates genuinely good character. We chose Powhatan for its outstanding math program, and their wilingness to allow our son to explore his interest in astronomy and physics, but we feel blessed to be part of every aspect of the Powhatan community.
