I've had a great experience at VHS over my 4 years here. The teachers were well trained and offered plenty of one on one help. There are truly no cliques to worry about, which was a horrendous problem at Tennessee High. The Band program was fantastic. I will miss my time here at VHS

While my children were here, they had little time to do things, other than homework through the week. Because of their classes, sports and after school activities were out of the question.

My son attended Washington Lee from kindergarden to 4th grade. He received such a strong education foundation from the teachers he had. He is now in the tenth grade in another state and that early foundation he benefited him tremendously. Thank you

My children attended Van Pelt Elementary School through the fifth grade and the overall experience was exceptional. The teachers were great and the kids still think fondly of several of them and even want to go back to see them now and again. You could not ask for a better public elementary education.

  • In 2008-2009, this school was rated "Fully Accredited".
  • In 2007-2008, this school was rated "Fully Accredited".

About the tests

Virginia school accreditation ratings reflect student achievement on Standards of Learning (SOL) tests and other assessments in English, history/social science, math and science. The 2009-2010 ratings are based on passing rates on tests taken during the 2008-2009 school year or on overall achievement during the three most recent years. Schools are identified as either Fully Accredited, Accredited with Warning, Conditionally Accredited or Accreditation Denied.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) End-of-Course tests to assess students in reading, writing, math, science and history/social science subjects at the end of each course, regardless of the student's grade level. The SOL End-of-Course tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia. High school students must pass at least six SOL End-of-Course tests to graduate. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the Virginia Department of Education. If there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
