This was an awful school. I attended for one year, and could stand it no longer, so I left. The math/science program was a joke, as were all the other classes. The teachers were merely there to say their was an adult in the classroom and some teachers that were in charge were bullies. The students had complete control of what happened in class. I was completely unprepared for the school I transferred into, and I am sure Marsteller would not prepare one for high school. If you are looking for a challenging and stimulating curriculum, this is not the place to go.
We are severely disappointed in the education platform and lack of leadership displayed by administration. The teachers are afraid of taking students to task for texting during class. When confronted by the lack of enforcing the rules of behavior, the teachers say that they are not supported by administration. This has a detrimental impact on learning! In addition, students recently advised a tenured teacher of repeated mistakes in a Civics exam. The teacher chastised the students for their remarks, and decided to disregard the exam. Why does it take students to point out these issues? And this is supposed to be the center for Math and Science? Seriously? I should not have to be the one to bring this to ANYONE's attention! If administration needs parents to surface such issues, then the administration needs to go. And if administration wants to deny such issues are occurring, then they better do so from a position of 1st hand knowledge and not from behind their desk! This is leadership by abandonment! Administration: Get involved! If you are looking for a quality learning environment - and you have a choice - DO NOT send your child to Marsteller!
This is our son's first year at Marsteller, and he (and we) just love it. The teachers are fantastic. Our son has never been in a school where the teachers are so helpful, and go out of their way to give the kids extra help. We've seen a wonderful improvement in our son, and we are so thankful to the teachers for this. We are truly blessed to have our son in Marsteller. From the cleaning crew, the volunteers, the office workers, guidance, administrators, etc......, there are such friendly and kind people at Marsteller.
My son is in 8th grade and has had some issues with a few other boys and Marsteller's security staff handled both situations promptly and extremely effectively!
Very pleased with Marsteller- caring, concerned staff and teachers. Would recommend to other parents.
I have a 7th grader at this school and I have volunteered there for the past 2 years. It is a wonderful school with a very hands on administration. There are lots of opportunities at this school in terms of the extracurricular activities and afterschool sports. My son is in the math/science program and has really enjoyed it.
This is still a fairly new school; it is my Childs first year and will have to say that any issues or concerns have been address immediately. The teachers work as a team which can help find issues earlier rather than later.
This is not a great school if you have a child with a learning disability. Teachers are overworked and the special needs students are overlooked. Ask to sit in on a class or two before enrolling your special needs student at this school.
