My son spent K-2 at RBW. I was very happy with the kind of school that we have here in South Norfolk. He is now at Truitt in the Gifted and Talented in 4th Grade. I watched these young children grow into wonderful independent kids. I am now a full time staff member and care for every child like mine was treated. The gifted and talented doesn't start until 3rd Grade in Chesapeake. Get to know the staff. Volunteer for all the fundraisers. We do need help. Many people want it to be a K-4. We just don't have the room. We have some of the best teachers in the area. We care when someone gets sick, hurt or passes. We love their smiling faces!
I was once a student at RBW many years ago and can still remember to this day how it was as a student. There are still a few teachers there that was my teachers. My children went to RBW also and would recommend this school to anyone who ask about it. I feel it is the best K- 2 school around. The teachers and staff love their children. They take care of them. I still think the school should be back to K-4.. but that is my opinion.
This is a very good school! I loved attending it, as I made many great friends, learned life long lessons, and got some of the very best education there.
Rena B. Wright is headed in the right direction, but it still has a long way to go. The school is very well kept and the teachers are wonderful people, but... There seems to be a huge communication gap between parents and faculty. It is like pulling teeth to get answers. The teachers rarely communicate with parents and we feel like we are bugging them by asking questions. Also, the school does not have programs for gifted children. My son is very bored and they are teaching him things he learned when he was 4. RBW does an excellent job with at risk children, but it leaves a lot to be desired for those that are not at risk. The teachers treat all students as if all students are the same. They are not.
I feel like it is a bother for all to have special education in this school.
