One of the best schools around in our area.

Listen. I think this school is great. idk people who ever complain about anything. Probably the classes being long but that is a great thing. Some people need to realize that they need to get over themselves and actually take a look at the school and not the people in it. The daughter probably had a bad experience with some students and she wanted to transfer. Some students are mean but that doesnt mean bash the school for the student. This school is great and it has everything it needs to be the best. It has plenty of programs and scholarships and nobody has to pay to take a test unless it is the SAT or ACT. They aren't even that bad. Overly dramatic!!

I have had 2 children in this school and they have always had a great selection of classes and many college credit classes to choose from. My oldest graduated last year and is enrolled in college at this time, as are most of her classmates. Maybe the other parents child just did not want to better herself by attending college so the parent just wants to trash the school.

It is strange how things can be different from one school to another. I teach in smyth County and have never asked a kid for money to take a test. The course offerings are available. Students can take courses from cooking through college level physicis. I think the parent below had a case with the administration, which is top-notch at CHS, and want to trash the school. I think a parent needs to visit and talk with school officials and not rely on a parent with a single bad experience.

My daughter went to this school, to say the least, it was horrible. The school has no programs and scholarships whatsoever. None of the kids even want to go to college. You have to pay for things like tests, which is ridiculous. The environment is not friendly. They do not offer enough classes. I had to transfer her out.

About the tests

Virginia school accreditation ratings reflect student achievement on Standards of Learning (SOL) tests and other assessments in English, history/social science, math and science. The 2009-2010 ratings are based on passing rates on tests taken during the 2008-2009 school year or on overall achievement during the three most recent years. Schools are identified as either Fully Accredited, Accredited with Warning, Conditionally Accredited or Accreditation Denied.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) End-of-Course tests to assess students in reading, writing, math, science and history/social science subjects at the end of each course, regardless of the student's grade level. The SOL End-of-Course tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia. High school students must pass at least six SOL End-of-Course tests to graduate. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the Virginia Department of Education. If there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
