I do agree with one parent who says the office staff nor a few other school personnel are not the greatest. My children were moved from KG Elementary and I have to say, it was a major disappointment having to deal with PES staff as compared to what I was use to at KGE. I mean. . . is it really THAT difficult to offer a smile????
Both of my children have attended Potomac Elementary. Like any school, parental involvement is key to a good education. Parents who take responsibility for encouraging, mentoring and directing their children throughout their learning years can expect the school system to complement their respective involvement. Good students are as much a product of great parents as are great teachers and schools
The facility is not as new and shiny and the other 2 elementary schools in King George County, but the educators are every bit as dedicated to their kids. I like the smaller, more intimate size of the school for my kids.
So far so good I like the school and staff!
My son attended Potomac for Kindegarten through 2nd grade. While I was so excited for him to attend Potomac since I attended Potomac as a student and loved the experience. However, I was sadly mistaken. The office staff was the absolute worst. I can not count how many times I would send a note to school for my son to ride the bus as opposed to being picked up and I would get a call 2 hours later wondering where I was to pick up my son. I was so relieved once I finally moved and my son was no longer subjected to their neglegance.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Potomac Elementary school. I believe that a lot of parents have transferred their kids because the other schools are newer. Newer doesn't mean better. Potomac has increased their test scores and have become more stable. They went thru a tough time recently (replacing staff and principal due to illness and other personal issues) but they have recovered wonderfully. My son is in 1st grade and I have had older children in my neighborhood (who attend the other schools) come to my home and see my son's homework and tell me that they haven't been introduced to his curriculum yet! My son transferred to this school and he has adjusted greatly and is one of the top kids in his class. He was very shy, but the teachers and the kids are great and my son has finally come out of his shell!
