At the beginning of my son's 8th grade this school was great! Just like it was for his 6th & 7th grade years. Halfway through the 8th grade school year DPS shut down two middle schools and funneled all the students into two middle schools. One of the schools was for children with discipline and behavioral problems. Since the addition of these particular children there have been fights, arrests, and the resignation of many excellent teachers. Something needs to be done to bring the school back under control. DPS has changed principals and added another security officer but it's going to take more than that. When my child writes an essay stating that he doesn't feel safe walking in the halls and going to the bathroom during class change, something else needs to be done. Communication between school representatives and parents are at best poor. Having an exceptional child that needs just a little extra help with homework documentation, due dates on assignments, and teacher communication; doesn't mean that it's being done. Even if it's mandated by the state in a 504 plan!
