I would like to take an opportunity to express my gratitude and support to all personnel at O.T. Bonner Middle School in Danville,Va. . Society so often only talks about the negative aspects of situations, and not enough about positive CHANGE ! Until someone said enough already to prior lack of control in 2013, nothing would have been done to solve these issues that teachers , and faculty had to endure everyday , Thank You!! I was a parent ready to pay for my child to attend county schools due to these issues. But after having the pleasure of meeting the new principle , Mrs Daphne Wall, I said No Way will I run from a problem we are going to support this lady cause she is a REAL LEADER !! I was right , O.T. Bonner has regained control, and complete new positive CHANGE. It is a wonderful school with a over the top faculty from top to bottom, and I can say this because I,m a hands on supporter, and volunteer with my son,s education. So please update this website and kindly remove 2013 old news and try a fresh impression for a school that has CHANGED. Thank You, Kathy A. Bottoms

At the beginning of my son's 8th grade this school was great! Just like it was for his 6th & 7th grade years. Halfway through the 8th grade school year DPS shut down two middle schools and funneled all the students into two middle schools. One of the schools was for children with discipline and behavioral problems. Since the addition of these particular children there have been fights, arrests, and the resignation of many excellent teachers. Something needs to be done to bring the school back under control. DPS has changed principals and added another security officer but it's going to take more than that. When my child writes an essay stating that he doesn't feel safe walking in the halls and going to the bathroom during class change, something else needs to be done. Communication between school representatives and parents are at best poor. Having an exceptional child that needs just a little extra help with homework documentation, due dates on assignments, and teacher communication; doesn't mean that it's being done. Even if it's mandated by the state in a 504 plan!

Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
