All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries is a real gem. Although is it only five years old, I believe JP is already the finest school in the area. The students are very motivated, loving, and learn the most important lessons in life--what it means to be part of a community. I have never met more professional and dedicated teachers anywhere. My older daughter just graduated last year and my son just started as a freshman. I can not say enough good things about the school strong academics, strong morals, excellent drama, music departments and strong academics. And not too expensive. You have to visit to believe it.

Yes. It was worth moving to send my children to this school. It is all that a school says it should be. It is a community and it has a culture. I have 2 children there now and I am absolutely "wow"ed and how enculturated and enthusiastic and happy my son is, despite being a freshman. That being said, he is still up late doing homework. When I had him read the questions to me last night and then saw how quickly and capably he wrote the answers, I was amazed. But today, I am just plain grateful that I have entrusted, our children (and our family) to this one-of-a-kind "school". Pope John Paul the Great, pray for us.

My son attends the Options program at Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School. His experience there has been phenomenal, one that would never be possible for him in public schools where he would be stuck in a self-contained classroom for most of the day. The students, teachers and staff have welcomed him with open arms. Our family is so grateful to have this school in our lives!!!

John Paul the Great- My son is a 9th grader who attended public Middle school. Although he already took Algebra in 8th grade th eschool placement test indicated that he should retake the course. Due to my sons effors the school recognized that he needed to be in a more advanced math class so they moved him right away and communicated with me as soon as practical. The teachers and the adminsitration seem to really give a hoot! While my son is not catholic we pay the more expensive cost for tuition. It is worth every penny.

Can't say enough good things about John Paul the Great. My son is a Sophmore and he loves it. The teaching is top notch and the teachers do care about their students. The school itself and the surroundings are beatiful. I would recommend the school to anyone interested in gaining a solid Catholic education in a vibrant, warm, exciting school

Pope John Paul can be the answers to your prayers if your child is struggling with public school. The staff creates a welcoming feel that can help students heal from bad experiences, negative teachers, and damaging encounters with other students.

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School has great Faculty and Principal. I give them a five star rating on the way that the students are taught and have learned from the courses that they are given to take. I encourage everyone to give this school a try to see the results that you will get from your student or students attending here. Parent involvement is great!! Volunteering at the concession stand to parent support to donating to the Faculty luncheons. Also, from the Fundraising activities like the Auction/Gala to the Wolf Pack night that the school held for the parents. You could not ask for anything better.

My son feels safe at John Paul. He is able to broaden his circle of friends without feeling restrictive in the sense of clicks or gangs. The kids that attend JP are good kids from good families. The goal for all is to challenge the child in a nurturing, loving, Christ-centered environment. This school is amazing !!!

I have freshmen at JPG and she loves it! As a parent I am highly impressed with the staff and the Dominican sisters. The love and attention they give the students is above and beyond what I could ask for in a school. After attending Back to School night and visiting the teachers and classrooms , I was excited and thought I wish had attended a high school like this. The education is outstanding .

Pope John Paul the Great is a FANTASTIC school! I could not have asked for more caring staff and more qualified teachers for my children. The teachers at JP truly WANT to be there! Their bioethics curriculum is AMAZING!!!! Sister Mary Jordan Hoover, Dr. Adam Bigbee and Mr. Shawn McNulty are the BEST administrators!

"Awesome" is hardly enought to describe Pope John Paul the Great. Outstanding leadership, terrific faculty, wonderful students, and an absoutely beautiful facility/campus. The curriculum is rigorous and prepares the students for the best colleges in the country. Pope (soon to be Saint) John Paul is no doubt proud of his namesake school.

Upon leaving Back to School Night I had the chance to speak to Principal, Sister Mary Jordan who was talking with another parent. When she finished her chat she turned to me as I went to share her hand. Upon embracing it I said the first thing that came to my mind. In fact it was the word that had been bouncing through my head after hearing my daughter s eight different teachers speak. Good evening Sister. I have one word for you. One word? She replied bracing herself for whatever this parent might be ready to say. What s that? WOW! was my reply. Not wanting to break my pledge of one word and to allow other parents to greet her, I turned towards the door and again said to her, Just WOW Sister. I ve been fortunate to work with some exclusive teams from astronauts, national security leaders and some notable business executives. All have been impressive but when it comes to shaping the future of my daughter (and hopefully my sons in a few years), there is little doubt about who is the real A-Team. Inspiration, dedication and just plain ole golly gee whiz-bang WOW! are located in Dumfries all under the named banner of a most deserved saint.

Pope John Paul the Great High school is a school of excellence. The teachers are the essence of what makes this school great. The teachers work as a team in educating the students. They involve the students in their own education. Making the students accountable for their actions and what they believe. In the bioethics classes they discuss why they believe what they have been taught to believe for their lives so far. The students are able to have active discussions about their faith. The students receive a solid education in science, math and humanities. The block schedule allows for longer class periods which reflects more of what the students will experience in college. It also allows for the teachers to get into deeper discussions or do multiple things during one class period. There is also a strong sense of community and supportive parents. No school is perfect, but John Paul the Great comes pretty darn close.

This is probably the best Catholic High School in the country. It is a joyful, vibrant community focused on both intellectual and spiritual formation. The Bioethics curriculum is unique in the country and helps prepare the students to go out into the world with an understanding of the most significant issues of the day. Students who take advantage of all that is offered to them will know and understand the truth. These kids are going to change the world!

My son is a freshman at John Paul and we could not be happier. His teachers are engaged and communicative, plus the overall environment is supportive and positive. We chose John Paul after 8 years of overcrowded public schools where teachers are forced to teach to the test and average students are lost in the shuffle. The House System and extra-curriculum activities gave him an immediate opportunity to feel a part of the school and to meet other students. For us it has been one of the best decisions we've ever made as parents.

I am honored to be a member of the faculty at John Paul the Great. It is a blessing to be a part of the JP family. I frequently hear from students (and parents) how grateful they are to be at JP, how much the teachers care, how many opportunities there are to develop gifts and skills, etc. We have incredibly impressive students, and we send students to top universities across the country. I wish I had gone to high school at a place like this!

What this school does not much in as far as "legacy" like many of the Catholic High Schools in Northern VA, it makes up in community. The Principal and the other Dominican Sisters of St. Cecelia, Nashville, TN, are amazing examples of Christ's love. The faculty and staff are dedicated, caring and compassionate in how they teach our children in the classroom, in the expectations they have for the each other and the students, as well as providing examples as they "walk the walk" in their daily life activities.

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School is an exceptional place for learning, not just for math and science, but about what exactly it means to be a person. Students have a wonderful environment and plenty of opportunities to grow as a person and a community. From studying Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas, to the issues of the modern culture, JPG's magnificent teachers provide an exceptional quality education. Being a former public school student I never felt challenged...then I went to JP and had to work. The hard work certainly payed off and the school prepared me for post-high school life and prepared me to face the challenges of society and life. The teachers, faculty, and staff are all wonderful people who care dearly for each and every student; all of them willing to drop everything to assist a student in need of aid. Besides all the academics and faith opportunities there are plenty of engaging extracurricular activities and always the opportunity to start something new. The school is not lacking in many areas, though not perfect, it certainly exceeds normal educational standards and well prepares students for life.

My daughter has a new freshman this year, but after spending several years in the failing public schools, and then being homeschooled for two years before attending JP the Great, I have to say so far we are very pleased. The entire staff is kind and friendly. The expectations on the children are high, but reasonable. I especially like that the staff truly believe that the parents are the first line of educators and keep us informed. In public schools, our experience was that the staff spoke to our children and had no regard to whether the parents knew about it, much less what it was what they spoke to our children about. I didn't like that.

My son is a senior this year, my second is a freshman. We are extremely pleased with the education they are receiving. The teachers are enthusiastic and engaged, and I love that they have daily contact with the Dominican sisters who have such a joyful vocation. I am confident my senior will go out into the world at graduation armed with a deep understanding of his faith, ready to live, defend, and share it !

As the parent of a freshman student this year I am thoroughly impressed and humbled by the kindness, generosity, and sincerity of the administration, faculty, staff, and students of Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School. This is truly a group of God's people with the heart and dedication to educate my child academically and spiritually, embracing him for who he is and providing guidance, along with us, his parents, to continue to grow and mature into the person God intends for him to be. A person that values and respects his brothers and sisters in Christ and respects and defends the dignity and life of every human being. If you are considering sending your child to Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School.... "Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence." Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School is unique in that it is the only high school in the country that is teaching about Bl. John Paul II's Theology of the Body as a requirement for graduation. This prepares them to intellectually engage in the numerous moral issues that our nation is grappling with today and will prepare them to be an active participant in the protection of human life where ever their life takes them. Presenting the students with four years of philosophy challenges them to search for truth. It has given the students the ability to reason logically and identify flawed arguments. When your teenager announces that she has a specific purpose in the world, that only she can fulfill, you know that she is not at an ordinary school. We have entrusted 4 children to the teachers at JP the Great thus far. The 2 that have graduated have found themselves WELL prepared for the transition to college.

Best decision I ever made was to send my son to this school. Teaching is great and the learning environment is superb. Fosters a great camaraderie among the student body. As a parent you feel reassured that your child will not have to deal with the social pathologies currently present in public schools. My son is a varsity athlete with a great GPA and is now looking into getting admitted to some top schools.

This school has very highly qualified teachers and a faculty that cares about their students. The Dominican sisters provide great leadership and understanding, they make the students think and they listen to students attentively. Classes are academically challeging and prepare students for college. The curriculum offers many diverse subjects and levels which are all college prep. The Bioethics curriculum which is required - is one of the first in the nation to be offered in a high school setting. The school has a outstanding athletics department that offers a variety of sports. Extra curricular activities such as drama club , student government, chorus, band, Mission Coalition, and Lifesavers are offered to keep students actively involved. Parents are highly encourged to volunteer and become involved, their opinions and suggestions are welcomed by the faculty. Students and faculty enjoy practicing their faith daliy - keeping them spiritually motivated and grounded. Attending this school continues to be a wonderful experience for my teenagers.

PJP the Great is an AWESOME school! You could not ever imagine a place with so much fun like this school. It is pretty competitive, have highly ranked teachers from College of William & Mary, Yale University, University of Notre Dame, and so on. The academic is comparably challenged for most of the students, but the teachers do care students a lot more than public schools. And the Sports are very competitive in the whole state. There is a 4-year Bioethics Curriculum only offer at this school and this is the only one school has this curriculum in the U.S.A.
