very good school but very poorly planned, as well as Potomac shores randomly put in the economically struggling dumfries. I would say about 70% of the students come from 30 min away (lake ridge or mannassas) alot also come from 45 min plus (Fredricksburg/gainsville) besides commute it will definitely prepare you for college, and their science program, while very hard is good. I will say their actual religious teachings and social events dont connect with me or other students well at all and their exclusive bioethics programs is very boring and wont be much help unless u plan on attending a Catholic school other than all that its a white, boring, but gr8 school 4 educational purposes.

John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries is a real gem. Although is it only five years old, I believe JP is already the finest school in the area. The students are very motivated, loving, and learn the most important lessons in life--what it means to be part of a community. I have never met more professional and dedicated teachers anywhere. My older daughter just graduated last year and my son just started as a freshman. I can not say enough good things about the school strong academics, strong morals, excellent drama, music departments and strong academics. And not too expensive. You have to visit to believe it.

Yes. It was worth moving to send my children to this school. It is all that a school says it should be. It is a community and it has a culture. I have 2 children there now and I am absolutely "wow"ed and how enculturated and enthusiastic and happy my son is, despite being a freshman. That being said, he is still up late doing homework. When I had him read the questions to me last night and then saw how quickly and capably he wrote the answers, I was amazed. But today, I am just plain grateful that I have entrusted, our children (and our family) to this one-of-a-kind "school". Pope John Paul the Great, pray for us.

We choose to live in this area specifically so that our children could attend this fantastic High School. Top notch academics and formation of the whole person - body, mind and spirit.

My son attends the Options program at Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School. His experience there has been phenomenal, one that would never be possible for him in public schools where he would be stuck in a self-contained classroom for most of the day. The students, teachers and staff have welcomed him with open arms. Our family is so grateful to have this school in our lives!!!

John Paul the Great- My son is a 9th grader who attended public Middle school. Although he already took Algebra in 8th grade th eschool placement test indicated that he should retake the course. Due to my sons effors the school recognized that he needed to be in a more advanced math class so they moved him right away and communicated with me as soon as practical. The teachers and the adminsitration seem to really give a hoot! While my son is not catholic we pay the more expensive cost for tuition. It is worth every penny.

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School Is a great school - beginning to end. It is located is a very beautiful and pastoral part of Prince William County. Just driving up to the school, makes you want to come here! I love teaching at PJPCHS and the students seem to love being here as well. We have a state of the art building with top notch faculty and staff. I am honored to teach with such wonderful colleagues. The administration is outstanding, supportive and solid. Between the great location, the students and the staff, it is such a pleasure to come to work each day!

Can't say enough good things about John Paul the Great. My son is a Sophmore and he loves it. The teaching is top notch and the teachers do care about their students. The school itself and the surroundings are beatiful. I would recommend the school to anyone interested in gaining a solid Catholic education in a vibrant, warm, exciting school

Pope John Paul can be the answers to your prayers if your child is struggling with public school. The staff creates a welcoming feel that can help students heal from bad experiences, negative teachers, and damaging encounters with other students.

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School has great Faculty and Principal. I give them a five star rating on the way that the students are taught and have learned from the courses that they are given to take. I encourage everyone to give this school a try to see the results that you will get from your student or students attending here. Parent involvement is great!! Volunteering at the concession stand to parent support to donating to the Faculty luncheons. Also, from the Fundraising activities like the Auction/Gala to the Wolf Pack night that the school held for the parents. You could not ask for anything better.

My son feels safe at John Paul. He is able to broaden his circle of friends without feeling restrictive in the sense of clicks or gangs. The kids that attend JP are good kids from good families. The goal for all is to challenge the child in a nurturing, loving, Christ-centered environment. This school is amazing !!!

I have freshmen at JPG and she loves it! As a parent I am highly impressed with the staff and the Dominican sisters. The love and attention they give the students is above and beyond what I could ask for in a school. After attending Back to School night and visiting the teachers and classrooms , I was excited and thought I wish had attended a high school like this. The education is outstanding .

Pope John Paul the Great is a FANTASTIC school! I could not have asked for more caring staff and more qualified teachers for my children. The teachers at JP truly WANT to be there! Their bioethics curriculum is AMAZING!!!! Sister Mary Jordan Hoover, Dr. Adam Bigbee and Mr. Shawn McNulty are the BEST administrators!

"Awesome" is hardly enought to describe Pope John Paul the Great. Outstanding leadership, terrific faculty, wonderful students, and an absoutely beautiful facility/campus. The curriculum is rigorous and prepares the students for the best colleges in the country. Pope (soon to be Saint) John Paul is no doubt proud of his namesake school.

Upon leaving Back to School Night I had the chance to speak to Principal, Sister Mary Jordan who was talking with another parent. When she finished her chat she turned to me as I went to share her hand. Upon embracing it I said the first thing that came to my mind. In fact it was the word that had been bouncing through my head after hearing my daughter s eight different teachers speak. Good evening Sister. I have one word for you. One word? She replied bracing herself for whatever this parent might be ready to say. What s that? WOW! was my reply. Not wanting to break my pledge of one word and to allow other parents to greet her, I turned towards the door and again said to her, Just WOW Sister. I ve been fortunate to work with some exclusive teams from astronauts, national security leaders and some notable business executives. All have been impressive but when it comes to shaping the future of my daughter (and hopefully my sons in a few years), there is little doubt about who is the real A-Team. Inspiration, dedication and just plain ole golly gee whiz-bang WOW! are located in Dumfries all under the named banner of a most deserved saint.

Pope John Paul the Great High school is a school of excellence. The teachers are the essence of what makes this school great. The teachers work as a team in educating the students. They involve the students in their own education. Making the students accountable for their actions and what they believe. In the bioethics classes they discuss why they believe what they have been taught to believe for their lives so far. The students are able to have active discussions about their faith. The students receive a solid education in science, math and humanities. The block schedule allows for longer class periods which reflects more of what the students will experience in college. It also allows for the teachers to get into deeper discussions or do multiple things during one class period. There is also a strong sense of community and supportive parents. No school is perfect, but John Paul the Great comes pretty darn close.

This is probably the best Catholic High School in the country. It is a joyful, vibrant community focused on both intellectual and spiritual formation. The Bioethics curriculum is unique in the country and helps prepare the students to go out into the world with an understanding of the most significant issues of the day. Students who take advantage of all that is offered to them will know and understand the truth. These kids are going to change the world!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
