Ettrick has a warm and friendly climate. It is ahead of the county in differientiated instruction.
My children have been attending Ettrick for the past three years. I love the instructional skills and dedication of most of the teachers that I have encountered so far. The administration staff could use some work...but, they try. Ettrick has always been a big supporter of parent participation and I love that. I think it's great how they try and get every parent involved in their children's education. I have had a little trouble overall with staff trying to help my son which has special needs, if not for that I would give Ettrick more stars.
Being the mother of a child that attends Ettrick Elem. I have been very pleased with the school, the teachers & staff are very friendly from all my experiences.I would like to see the kids perhaps do more as far as field trips & fun events....maybe even a fall/winter carnival! Another thing I always help out as a room mom,but some of the folks on the PTA or whatever are tooo picky about what you can/can't do,I think that's what keeps other parents from being more involved. As long as religion & special needs are respected....there should be no problem. Also invite the parents to more school activities, but give them plenty of notice for those who work during school hours. The office staff rocks they are so great,we have new principals this year so I don't know how this year will be,hopefully Ettrick will just keep getting better!
I am hoping that the principal leadership will be better with a new principal for the 2007-2008 school year, the school definitely lacked this. I am a parent who likes to be involved in the school and with my child, but no one calls or sends flyers until the last minute or not at all. I can't be a room mother, because I have to work 4 days per week, but I make it known @ the beginning of each school year that I will help out on my day off or send things to school and no one ever calls. I'm hoping that having a new principal this year, will change a lot for the good.
My child is in kindergarten at ettrick elementary and i am not very satisfied with the school. The staff and teachers are great but the principal leadership leaves much to be desired. They also do not have many school programs with the kindergarten students. I would have liked to see my child in a school program for thanksgiving or the other holiday seasons. Parent involvement is very low but i have found that the school does not make it easy to be involved. Notification for activities is very short notice. The teachers have been great in working with the children with there learning needs.
I have a the pleasure of seeing Ettrick blossom to the school it is today. While it lacks parental involvement, it has improved in this area. I am pleased to have my youngest child there this year under the leadership of Ms. Rice Jones, of whom I feel is what this school needed all along. I just wish she was there when my older children were students. Kudos to Ettrick.
My son attended this school for several years. It was sad to leave the great teachers and staff behind when we moved on. It is a school with great diversity. The one thing that this school lacks is parent involvement. With a little TLC and a influx of stability this would be a wonderful place for your child to recieve an education.
