I reviewed once before, and in the two years that my child has attended this school, my views have changed. I think that this school, like most are just worried about scores and budgets. I guess it was wishful thinking that this school was something special. It isn't.

This is an amazing school. Mrs. Holmes, the principal is extremely engaged at all levels of the schools operations and academics. Mrs. Estep, K teacher, is one of the best teachers I have seen.

The school staff is wonderful. Most of the teachers seem to care about the students. The one problem I have is that there always seem to be new teachers, and when I say new I mean fresh out of college with little to no experience. Which can be frustrating when dealing with them.

This is a wonderful school with a dedicated, caring and professional staff. I have never seen Ms. Holmes look anything other than 100% professional. The review posted yesterday stating that there is no color and no playground is simply NOT TRUE. There may be little color on the last day of school because they start cleaning up and taking things down, but if you go into this school at any other time of the year there are posters on the wall, bulletin boards, pictures of kids, science fair displays, etc. everywhere. There are beautiful murals painted by one of the parents on the walls. The building is old, but is clean and well maintained. They even have central air conditioning! As far as no playground, this is not true. There is a large playground, fenced in, with mulch. Some of the equipment was just added last year. My son is a third grader here and just scored advanced proficient on all his SOLS (three of the 4 were perfect scores!) This is an awesome school. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, sure, but you should not be allowed to post things that are factually not true! And what this person said about Ms. Holmes, the playground and the lack of color are not true!

I wam very proud that my nieces go to E.W.M. I went there as a child in elementry school and guess what Mrs. Holmes was my principle there. The same P.E. teacher Mr. Hattenback still there. Yes some teachers have retired but it feels good when you walk in the school and still be called by your first time. No it wasn't because I was a bad student it was because they all care!!!! Students are thier main priority!! If parents are having communication problems they may need to show up for meetings, etc. There are many oppurtunities to communicate from telephone calls to email. You can even see your childs grades before thier report cards if you signed up for that. Lunch cafe is also cool where you will know what your child is eating everyday. Mrs. Holmes and staff are excellent with our children.

My daughter is currently in Kindergarten at this school. She has a wonderful teacher and assistant but that is about all I can say that I like about it. Parent are responsible for daily snacks for that whole class and most send in Hostess snacks, chips, and candy. It is such a bad example to set. P.E. is only once a week and only for a half hour. Kids need to be more active. I am only kept in the loop about my child when I get a report card and the one parent teacher meeting at the begininning of the school year.

My children attended this school from K-5th grade. My experience was wonderful. My children were always so excited about school. Even the end of the year SOL's. Great jobs Ms. Holmes & staff! Much success to everyone!

My daughter is just about to finish her second year at E. Wilson and we generally like it! Her teachers have been loving but vague about some things that I would like them to follow through with. I am never sure when the PTA meets and have numerous times offered to come and be on the Board. I want to know what my daughter is doing and her weak points as well as her strong points. I am also a little concerned about the Safety Issues of the school and people walking in off the street.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
