The earlier review was right. It's official, the school board has voted to close this school. Do not move to Gloucester for this school - it will not be here. The other schools in Gloucester do not perform as high as this one "did". Check out WIlliamsburg schools - much better ratings.
This is a GREAT school. We as parents (most of us) are doing everything we can to keep the doors OPEN! The principal has been AMAZING and you can see how much the children love her when you see them in the hallway. My son runs up to her and gives her a hug when we see her off of school grounds. As a military family we are extremely happy with our decision to move to Gloucester and for our child to attend TC Walker. This 1st school year has given my son AMAZING results in his grades and confidence.
This is the BEST elementary school in Gloucester, but if you are thinking of moving to Gloucester, as we did in a military transfer this past year because of this school - DONT! - The Superintendent is closing this school so he can put top of the line flooring and trophy cases in the new Middle school that is being built to replace Page middle. All under this flag of "Budget Cuts" Why close the one school that brings people to your community? About to be a superiorly BAD school system. The superintendent wants to send the kids from this one good elementary to attend underachieving schools like Botetourt which has failed to meet testing standars for the last 2 years! Dont take my word - look it up and see for yourself. If you are a military family moving to the area with elementary school children, look for housing in Williamsburg area vice Gloucester.... better schools and school system management. We all (military families) know how hard it it to relacte our children to new communities, forcing them to abandon friends and try to make new ones, and get used to new surroundings, Save yourself and your kids from compounding the heartache and dont move to Gloucester.
I have had to deal with TC Walker since we moved here 11 years ago, if I could sell my home so my kids could go to better schools here in Gloucester I would, I am so tired of some teachers are wonderful and some I think neeed to go back to school and learn how to teach, and for the Principle to call her Doctor I won't I can go take a test like her and be called doctor over the summer just as she has, She is rude and will only help if you are upper class not middle, All parents should be treated just the same there, I do care about my childs education so it would be nice if she showed as much interest as I do when I call about things that have to do with helping my child.
This school did nothing but lower my childs self esteem. She has behavioral problems to begin with and a seizure disorder on top of that and the special education program did not give her the tools she needed to excel. do to this she is in another school district and she is reaaly excelling now!
Love it! The teachers are awesome!
Love it - love it - love it! turned down a brand new home because we are not willing to leave the walker district! the best thing to ever happen to our family! chrissy has been a wonderful asset to the great job bambi was already doing!
We had a great 6 years at TC Walker but 5th grade I wouldn't do again. The teachers need to lighten up and realize these kids are that'kids'. They are very negative and even mock the children it's unfortunate that we 5th grade was so difficult for all the children. We have had wonderful teachers all other years. The office staff is top notch and the nurses have been wonderful and very knowledgeable with special needs children. I have to say the principals were great too.
We love TC Walker. They have a great office staff, wonderful nurse and great principals. My children are doing excellent and have alot of 'PAW PRIDE' We could not have picked a better school. this is an A+ school! Good Job Bambi and Mrs.B.
Great School, Great Principals!
