I was a sixth grade student here before moving to Newport News, and my time here was terrible. It's very unsanitary and many of the teachers, from my experience, were very rude. The curriculum is fair, but they offer no extra-curricular activities. The gym for the girls is horrid, and the gym for the males is fairly decent and much better maintained than that of the girls. Also, the school is located in a relatively "hot" area. I, personally, under any circumstances would not return to this school. I'd much rather take my chances with the magnet program.
The school board needs to put cameras and microphones secretally in every classroom to see and hear what the other students are saying to each other.
I go to davis now in the 7th grade and I have to say .... Best school & best school year ever! hope the same 4 next year!
its ok...the children may be rude time to time...not to often do you see kids talking about innappropiate things. The teachers are So nice. but overall its a pretty good school
i went to davis for to years and it was the best school ever.parents i suggest you send your child here theyll have a wonderful year the teachers make learning fun and exciting
This is a fantasic middle school. Someone I care for attends there and I feel it is better then some of the higher rated schools. To the staff: keep up the great work the kids enjoy being with you and that is key to a great education.
I think Jeff Davis is one of the best Public City schools in the area. I have had 3 kids attend JDM in the passed 2 years and have not had any problems go unresolved. It has a very solid foundation, with a very caring staff. A school can only be as good as the teachers, students, PTA and parents can make it. If i could make one suggestion it would be to have more teacher/parent/student team building exercises to bring everyone closer...and help to mold the childrens minds in a positive direction. One of my other suggetions would be to encourage the staff to possibly interact more with the feeder schools and maybe have some type of consolidated community fundraiser to allow the children to do something positive, give the teachers and parents another opportunity to interact outside of the classroom and pull down those barriers that separate them.
The success of any school depends on several factors: i.e., students, parents, teachers, and administrators. What has declined over the years is the parental involvement. If parents and students want a better school they have to look for ways to make the school better. The school has highly qualified and highly dedicated teachers who go beyond the normal school day to ensure the success of every student.
i really like going to that school and the teachers are very wonderful with us and the y love us like their own children and the principal is wonderful he helps the kids with some of their problems and he is the best principal a school can have and he has a great leadership with the school and in every grade level we have a vice principal to Handel the children's concerns and they are there everyday and if they are not there the teacher will send you to the main principal and they will have to deal with the consequences .
I have a 6th grader who attends Davis Middle and an 8th who is now at Bethel. I am very unhappy with the lack of education. I feel that some of the teacher are there to just rec a pay check and not to educate the students. They don't offer any extracurricular activities.
