There was a recent change in principal at Merrimack, and it was definitely not for the better. In fact things got so bad that my ex-wife had to pull my daughter out and send her to live with me so she could go to school in another district. The teachers try their hardest but they don't have any support from the administration. What was once a somewhat decent school is seriously turning into something like Lord of the Flies. If you care about your kids' education I'd recommend avoiding Merrimack Elementary at all costs.
its a wonderful school. Everytime I walk in I am welcomed and comfortable and my daughter loves to go.
This was my first year participated in the year around program and Staff makes this a rewarding experience. The principal and vice principal are both awesome and the spirit and love they have shown my daughter is much appreciated. My daughter loves Ms. Owens and thinks she is the best she has worked hard to make her adjustments comfortable! Thank you all!!
I was very reluctant to put my child in Merrimack. She went for Kindergarten and turns out I was very pleased with the school. The staff members are great. My daughter was reading by the time school let out for summer, the K teachers are wonderful. The old saying 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' is true.
I just moved to the Hampton Roads area in July of 2004. I was skeptical of the schools in the area because of the scores I had seen. My son started at Merrimack Elementary in the third grade. He has excelled a great deal. He loves the school. He has made honor roll since being there and he loves the math and science curriculum. I love the school environment and how they encourage parent participation. We, as a whole, are very pleased with Merrimack. The staff there are very friendly and more then willing to put forth extra effort to help. The programs are challenging even for a very academically gifted child and pushes the child to do there personal best. They have clubs and after school programs which keep children involved beyond an academic level. I would recommend Merrimack Elementary to anyone.
