How many parents pay good money for teacher/student ratios like this? School is what you make of it! If you want to succeed, you will. With Internet and all the expanded course availability there is no excuse not to achieve whatever you want! Seek out that which is excellent. My third child is now entering Central.
I came to this school about 9 years ago from Hanover. I noticed the differences right away in the classroom, the teachers were working on things with the children that I had learned grades ago. I think that alot of the teachers are lazy and can get away with it here. Alot of kids didnt even show up to school or they just walked around school during the day with out attending classes! The overall atmosphere is poor and cold. Very few teachers were willing to help you or spend extra time on anything and some didnt do anything at all. The teachers are about as juvenille as some of the students. When I graduated I knew the exact same amount as what I learned in 9th grade at Atlee!
King and Queen is a great school. The teachers are very nice. I am an active student in Central High and from my point of view we are a pretty good school. We not the best but far from the worst.
This a really great school, parents really dont know the truth really what goes on inside the school because there really isnt much support from parents or the community in any of the sporting events the evolve around the school. If you would ever happen to go to a football game on a Friday night you would see the stands almost completly empty. More support is needed from the community. The adminstration in the school is ok not to the top though, in my opinion like previously stated they are worried too much on behavioral problems than academics, also with the administration there is no support for sporting events. Teachers in this school are very good at what they do the Math department is really strong..
I have 2 children in Central High School. I have found the teachers to be adequate in the courses that they teach, but seem to have difficulty inspiring the children to learn. I believe if the school had more support from the community it could very much improve. I feel that there needs to be more interaction among the students, opportunities for them to 'deflate' in the manner of dances, and other social events, and more opportunities for a bigger & better recreational time. More support for the cheerleading, football & other sporting events should always be encouraged.
Central High, has the potential of being a good school. But there are some serious problems within the administration. The teachers are also not motivated enough to teach. When you are teaching you need to be passionate about it. Since Ms. Simms has become Principal the order of things has been restored, but I feel that she focuses more on punishments than academic success. Although during her years at central the sol results have increased, but not to where they ought to be.
This school has a lot of potential but something isn't right within. There is not trust among students and teachers. I hope that with time this school can change for the better.
I'm a former central kq high school student, and the problem is several things. The students don't want to try, the teachers are not supported by the administration and are pushed around by the students, and the parents are not involved enough. Most of the students don't believe they can acheieve, and they have low self-esteem, or they are just lazy. The teachers let the troubled students slip through the cracks because they have a quota to meet, and if it's not met, they're fired. That's why i think they should abolish the sol's. Too many students are being left behind. They are being passed and not knowing the information. Administration needs to seek out the problem... Not cover it up. That is not going to make it go away, and if they want king and queen to change, everyone is going to have to change.
This is a great school. My child attended a local school in this surrounding area and didn't do all that well at all. We moved to K&Q and now he attend Central High and is doing very well. He wasn't on grade level coming from a well highly respected school. He started at King and Queen elementary schools with the help of their programs he now reads on grade level and is well above average in math. I myself graduated from a highly respected public schools in north carolina. I must say King and Queen really suprised me! The teacher are excellent and they really work with the student and parents.
This school has great potential. Most of the students are great kids, some have problems but not unlike any school in the country. If folks would focus on the positives, of which there are many, and stop zeroing in on the negatives proported by a few, things would improve. Parental involement is the best deterrent to poor schools - there will be a focus on this throughout the community this year to show our kids that they are our future!
