We are very pleased with not only the school but the summer camp program. Our children are having a great time so far. Thank you LCDS!
This school has done more to challenge our bright child than his previous "gifted" school ever did. Worth every penny. Great teachers and the students come from nice families. Kids are happy and engaged.
Five stars is not enough for this amazing school. We knew we had picked a wonderful place for our daughter to attend K through 2nd grade, but when a job relocation forced us to move to Florida, we had that confirmed and more! LCDS is a fantastic school with committed teachers, a nurturing environment, enriching after-school programs and awesome field trips. Given the chance, we would return to LCDS in a heartbeat!
We feel Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg, VA immensely enriched the lives of our whole family. Our original intention was for our 2 sons, now 25 and 27, to attend the terrific full day kindergarten program. Both boys thrived and enjoyed school so much that we made sacrifices to keep them enrolled through the 8th grade. Our involvement with LCDS spanned 13 years. I feel we were all rewarded on many different levels. Because of the dedication of the teachers and headmaster to foster curiosity and bring out the best talents in every child, both our boys have developed passions for literature, politics, world history, math, science, music and arts and a variety of sports. We all agree that LCDS provided the educational foundation and encouragement that allowed them to graduate from both high school and college with a variety of honors and enable them to pursue meaningful careers in their young adult lives.
Our kids attend LCDS and they love it! The teachers are experienced and caring. The small class sizes provide individual attention to the students which keeps them involved in their school work. Our kids are getting an education and not just test prep. The extracurricular activities offered are varied and well rounded making the school a great place for a child to grow and learn. The level of parent involvement has created a true sense of community. The Head Master is always there to greet students and parents. In general, the school has been a very nurturing environment to our kids.
Our child has attended Loudoun Country Day School for the past two years -- and we couldn't be happier. The teachers are phenomenal! They develop incredibly creative and challenging lessons that extend far beyond "the basics". The small classes allow teachers to give children individual attention and differentiate instruction. I have been very impressed with the school culture and sense of community. Everyone knows my daughter and she feels very welcomed every day. As she goes into the older grades, we look forward to having her participate in the fabulous team sports program and orchestra/band -- since we believe a well-rounded school program is important. I highly recommend LCDS and encourage parents to visit the school for a tour or open house. You won't be disappointed!
We are full time working parents whose son has been in a private daycare/preschool setting since he was 12 weeks old. When he reached the preschool age, we felt that there had to be more and explored other options, one of which was LCDS's PK/JK program. After much consideration we enrolled him in their JK program and feel extremely fortunate to have him continuing in Kindergarten program. There was more and is more. They have a very nurturing environment, smaller classrooms, language arts, music arts and so much more. Our PK, now K child has been exposed to programs that are usually reserved for older children. He is excited about homework and loves his teachers. He feels comfortable in conversations with Adminstration and enjoys seeing them each morning as he is helped out of his car. Their program is nurturing and teaches our son core values which we instill at home. We couldn't be more pleased and are hopeful for a long future with LCDS>
Our daughter attends Pre-K at LCDS. The entire program has exceeded our expectations! We chose the school due to their small class size, parent involvement and sense of community. The staff is excellent and stays in constant contact. My daughter already knows most the teachers by name and vice versa. The educational program that was outlined at the beginning of the year is being followed exactly as planned and promised. I would highly recommend the school and plan on keeping our daughter their through middle school.
We send both of our children to LCDS. The experience has been incredible! The school has been a perfect fit for both of our children. The academics have allowed our children to flourish and grow, challenging them to new heights while encouraging and supporting them along the way. The teachers and staff are warm, engaging, and creative in presenting the material. Our youngest has gone from resisting school (at a different school last year) to becoming upset if he has to stay home due to illness. LCDS has a philosophy that nurtures the entire student - from academics, to phyical fitness, to the arts, to being a good citizen, - and they do all of it marvelously! We strongly recommend Loudoun Country Day School!
The choice to send our children to private school was not an easy one for our family, yet one by one we sent our children into the nurturing halls of Loudoun Country Day. All three of our children excelled in their respective programs. For our family, the well-rounded philosophy of the school was very important. We loved that our children participated in a comprehensive music program as well as a competitive sports program. Our county does not traditionally support foreign language learning before middle school, but our children were given this opportunity at LCDS. The teachers and administration were nurturing and supportive. Our children were able to excel and grow through the wonderful opportunities provided to them. Above all, our children became great students and great people. They have gone on to demonstrate these skills in both high school and college. We highly recommend Loudoun Country Day School!
We are a family with a long history at LCDS. We have 3 children, our two oldest are both graduates of LCDS and our youngest has been in the program since Pre-K and is now in middle school. Our children have all benefitted greatly from their educational experience at LCDS. Our two oldest went on to attend a competitive private high school and now are in a top tier univeristy and private college. They are capable, earnest and thoughtful students. Our youngest is thriving in 7th grade. The LCDS mission has always been about the student and providing a core experience with a commitment to academics, community service and character. The capable leadership and experienced and dedicated teachers and coaches have maintained consistently excellent standards and shown a genuine love of students. Our three children reflect that their qualities of integrity, honesty and intellectual curiosity were nurtured and honed during their years at LCDS. This is an exemplary program and an extraordinary school. We are grateful for their significant role in the education and development of our three children and highly recommend this program to other families.
As the parent of two LCDS graduates, I was not at all surprised to see so many glowing reviews of the school on this site. Our family spent a total of 11 years at LCDS. My children received an outstanding education there, taught by caring teachers who enabled them to gain the critical thinking skills that are now serving them so well in higher education. My younger child now attends a highly competitive boarding school; his older brother graduated as valedictorian from the same school and now attends an Ivy League university. They both credit their academic successes with the strong foundation they got at LCDS. As important as the academics were the values that were instilled in them from day one. They gained lifetime friends and teachers that they will never forget. One of the greatest compliments they could get is when my older son recently told me I would like for my children to go to here someday. PS I am puzzled by the posting here complaining about some doors being locked. Yes, the school wants people coming through the front door near the office. That s basic common sense I know that I wouldn t want unmonitored doors open for anyone to wander in.
As a professional who advises youth-serving organizations about safety issues, I'm deeply grateful for the safe environment my daughter enjoys at LCDS. The school's policy of requiring visitors (including parents!) to enter through the front door of the building is absolutely "state of the art". The staff is warm, caring and accessible. And the balance of academics, arts and athletics is ideal, in my view. My daughter is safe and nurtured at LCDS and she has blossomed into a confident young woman. I owe the LCDS administration and faculty an incalcuable debt of graditude!
With two sons graduated from LCDS not only do we continue to be proud of being part of an exciting community but feel our boys recieved the best education possible for our area. Our sons have gone on to be well diciplined and high achievers, in excellent schools, at a time when a good education is the most important thing we can give our sons. LCDS nurtured our sons from K-8th grade, helped make them inquisitive and community minded, and gave them the tools to start in advanced classes in high school. We are particularly grateful for all the dedicated teachers who made this possible.
We had our child at LCDS a year ago and were very displeased with the entire experience. We have since moved our child to a different private school in the area and what a huge difference it's been! My child feels safe, nurtured and secure and all the self-confidence issues suffered b/c of one K teacher is gone completely. As a parent, I am excited to drop off and pick up and be as involved as I can be at the new school versus LCDS where I detested having to step foot anywhere near the classroom. When parents have the same issues again and again (ADD/ADHD) with a school, I think it's time for the school administrators to take a hard look at their teachers and the effect those teachers are having on the school reputation.
While LCDS does have small class sizes and (too) many field trips (do 2nd graders need to miss a few hours of school to go to the movie theatre to see The Lion king?), and a wonderful foreign language program, there are many things wrong with the program and the administration in the Middle School. I warn parents that if they think they will have access to the school because they are paying more than $20,000 a year in tuition, you will be sadly mistaken. School administrators DO NOT want the parent on the school and you are locked out. They only want parents on the premises when said parents are covering lunch so that the teachers can get together and have a "staff" meeting. A meeting where they bash parents and kids, alike. If you are one of the parent volunteers for the daily lunches and you have to schlep tons of food into the school, you have to schlep them from the back parking lot to the front door. Side doors are locked to all parents. So, in the rain, cold, and snow, parents keep schlepping to help out the school that locks them out. Sorry, LCDS, I don't believe you are worth the $20,000.
I am a former parent. In all fairness, my children are no longer at the school, so my concerns may have since been partially addressed. My daughter was considered by certain staff at the school to be ADD, yet in 2008 when trying to address my concerns related to that diagnosis and my daughter's 4th grade curriculum - e.g., allowing her to keep extra texts at home - I got little to no assistance from the teacher or school. In addition, the amount of homework was outrageous! The projects were more than I had to tackle at an 8th-grade level - e.g., 4 written research reports in 1 month on top of regular homework and reading. I have no problem with homework when it is thoughtful, is reinforced in school, and when the kids can do it themselves. But my daughter was not being taught how to conduct the research nor how to write the reports -e.g., outline, notecards, etc. I had to teach her myself. Additionally, she was being treated as if she was sub-standard though she was getting As & Bs. She was losing all self-confidence. We have since switched to another private school and she is getting all A's, reading more and finally learning to write! Additionally her math scores have gone up.
We feel LCDS incorporates a well-rounded, "whole-child" approach to learning. In addition to the advanced curriculum in Math, English and Science, our children are learning French AND Spanish, participate in wonderful music pagents, are exposed to technology at the Kindergarten level and beyond, and participate in an impressive array of art expression and history. They also teach and engage their students in philantrhopic endeavors throughout the year within our local community. We also love the low teacher-student ratio, the incredible sports programs from swimming to tennis (and more), and the beautiful, new facility where it all takes place. We don't feel any other school in the area compares.
We highly recommend Loudoun Country Day School. We enrolled our children in LCDS because of the small class size, but fell in love with the creative teachers, wonderful art and music programs, and strong athletics. Our kids love that they know students and teachers in every grade, and truly feel that they are a part of a community at LCDS. They both entered the school as shy children, but have grown into self-confident students and citizens. Thank you, LCDS!
Loudoun Country Day School provides the best educational environment in Northern Virginia. Our children have thrived in its complete program. LCDS offers enriching experiences in the arts, sports, music, and academics. Each specialty teacher is dedicated to providing high-level learning experiences in his or her academic area. The middle school program is challenging while also providing teachers who are mentors to the children during these formative years in their character. The small class sizes allow for individual student attention and in-depth study of various topics. Our children are very happy at LCDS.
