The teachers and staff really care about the students. They are willing to do whatever it takes to help each individual student succeed.

My son is an accelerated learner or gifted student who attended 6th , 7th (second half) and 8th grades at SCW. With few exceptions, the teachers are dedicated, hard-working, and stimulating. Like other parents, I was very impressed with the attention and support given to advance reading skills of all students; this has resulted in the school s exceptional reading test scores. Among other experiences, the gifted program encouraged my son and another student to study Algebra and Geometry in the county s high school and facilitated transportation so they could earn these credits. SCW has numerous attributes and among them is the solid and caring leadership of its principal Joe Fears. Overall, I think SCW is a great school and I m grateful because it challenged my son to do his best even though he was sick almost as much as he was well. He s in the 11th grade now at Charlottesville High School where he continues to excel academically in preparation for college.

St. Clare Walker Middle (SCW) is an exceptional school. Our family recently moved into this area from a suburb of New York City known for its academic excellence. SCW is more attentive to our son's needs (he is a high-achieving student in most subjects) than the highly acclaimed school in NY that he attended last year. SCW is a great school because it has wonderful leadership, a talented teaching staff and very tough standards. Mr. Joe Fears is a principal with a no-nonsense approach to managing middle-schoolers. The teachers we've encountered are competent and caring. Finally, the scoring criteria is higher than we are used to - an 'A' grade at SCW is 95 or higher. This tough grading program encourages children to strive and stretch their capabilities. SCW is a Great School.
