Linkhorne Elementary School

this school is excellent. i didn't put my kid in any pre k classes. she went straight to kindergarden and she did very good. now she is in the first grade and doing great. this is a really good school.

I am a teacher at Linkhorne and have had a child attend Linkhorne for grades K-2. He excelled at Linkhorne, and we could not have been more pleased with the attention that was placed on all children, not just our own. The administrators have an open door policy and will listen to any concerns a parent might have. It is important for all parents and guardians to be involved and express concerns to the appropriate people. This school has been recognized for community involvement projects and offers a variety of special activities-French,afterschool enrichment and tutorial programs, and lots of special events for student participation that are not offered at other schools. Visiting is the best way to check things out.

The leadership here is absolutely wonderful. Yes, there is a focus on diversity as there should be, yet the focus on students is never overlooked. My son has been there since kindergarten and I have maintained a wonderful relationship with all teachers, staff, and administration. As a middle school educator, I feel this school more than adequately prepares students for the challenges of adolescence. Diversity is a necessity of life and Jason Mack has done a beautiful job of not only carrying the torch of Jimmy Ping, but of forging his own path of excellence for ALL students.

As a former teacher there, I felt this school is poorly led. The desire for diversity outweights the need for children to be successful in the Lynchburg City Schools. The curriculum is weak. Two thirds of my students came in either below or barely on grade level standards. The administration of the school and the district does not back its teachers. Though there are many teachers who cared about their jobs, others do not. The curriculum and school practices make it a challenge for anyone to succeed, teachers or students. Unfortunately, a majority of the parents were not involved in their child's education. It is a sad state of affairs. After teaching there, I made a firm committment to send my children to a private school.
