This school is fantastic! My children have been challenged and nurtured. They love going to school. They love learning. Their incredible teachers engage them in real learning, not just how to pass a state test. My older children who have gone on to high school have excelled and were far more prepared than their peers from other schools. The school community is kind and supportive. I couldn't ask for more.
The school has a character pledge and emphasizes their pillars of character: fairness, caring, trustworthiness, citizenship, kindness, responsibility, and respect. Character education is integrated into the whole school program, but more importantly you see it played out on the school grounds. Students helping each other in the cafeteria, playing fairly on the playground, picking up someone else's dropped item, middle school students warmly interacting with their lower school buddy.
I have two children at JRDS, and although they are very different types of learners, they are both challenged academically. Small classes, lots of personal attention and incredibly gifted teachers make each day a great experience. The Head of School and Assistant have a strong vision for the school - to turn out scholars, leaders and citizens - and it is echoed is everything we do at school. I encourage other parents to take a look at JRDS - its a gem!
I have been very impressed with emphasis on scholarship, leadership and citizenship. My children are challenged while being exposed to a wealth of opportunities - taking a foreign language beginning in kindergarten, gym three times a week, computer twice a week, art, music and library once a week. The teachers are committed to teaching, creative about their approach and demonstrate that our children are known and loved.
