Our son and daughter both attended VES and had wonderful experiences! Now several years out of school, they both refer to it as a positive, life-shaping experience. It was worth every penny!

VES is remarkable in its ability to nurture talents and skills of individual students. My son has been encouraged to stretch academically, artistically, and athletically in ways that serve him well in college and beyond. The faculty and administration are dedicated and professional in their approach to education.

I have two sons enrolled at VES. They balance healthy doses of work and play on a campus that feels very much like a small college campus. I have every confidence in their preparation for college-level work and responsibility. While not perfect, VES seems to have it just about right.

The reason that VES has gone down hill is due largely to the administration. The board of trustee's should take a hard look at whom they have left in control of this school. Most of the teachers are very good and really take time with each student.

My sons and I all attended various prep schools in the state of Virginia. My youngest son is currently enrolled at VES. I find the teachers to be very caring and the a high emphasis on education. In fact I receive email updates from many of them concerning my sons performance weekly.Yes, a Few of the class rooms are located in a basement and are a bit small-but with only around ten students per class its not a problem. Yes, there are a small number of expulsions each year- but those students signed a honor code and broke it ( usually many times) before being thrown out. Lastly, I will agree the food is not great-thats my sons Only complain about VES. I have found VES to be one of the better prep schools in the south and my son well prepared for college.

Where has the VES we used to know gone? This place is but a shell of its former self. The administration is pitiful. Unbelievable inconsistency in application of policy. In fact I feel the school has no idea what its purpose really is. There is too little control and hence too many expulsions each year. A few of the teachers care but for the most part there does not seem to be an emphasis on quality education here. The facilities, other than the athletic center, are substandard, especially considering the cost of the place. Some classrooms are truly no bigger than walk-in closets and many are in a basement level. Don't even ask about the food. Talk is they have cut the budget ...and it tastes like it. VES is just a joke now.
