Our children are receiving an excellent education at Cougar! The teachers and administrators are top knotch educators and devote themselves to the kids. One of the features I like best at Cougar is the small class parallel block schedule which lets the teacher work with smaller groups of students for English and Math classes. There is also a heavy emphasis on technology so that even our Kindergardeners are working on computers in Technology Lab, and exciting music and art programs. The school administrators are very responsive to parents and they take pains to make a very diverse student body supportive of one another - students MUST treat each other with respect. I have not seen one bullying problem arise and that is because they start very early stressing the need to be kind and considerate of others. We moved to Manassas Park for the schools and we have not been disappointed.
I love thi school. The teachers are wonderful. There is one teacher that both my girls have had and have learned a great deal from-Mrs. Boss. She is above and beyond to make sure every student is up to wherew they should be. Highly recommend Cougar.
Mrs. Jones is a true gem of a teacher for Kindergarten. The nurse is also wonderful. I was a bit worried because the person that originally gave me the tour who was the Principal at that time resigned right before school began. She was a very estute and impressive principal. I have never come to contact with the new Principal but the teachers and everyone else I have come in contact with have been wonderful.
My daughter attended Cougar for 2 years and we had a wonderful experience. The teachers and administrators were excellent. We moved out of the area this year and are missing Cougar greatly, although we love our new home. Great Job to all the faculty and staff at Cougar.
Amazing, technologically advanced school. With block scheduling, 100 minutes of technology per day, as well as small group instruction, physical education, music, art and library, students are guarenteed a great education. In a small community, parent involvement is high throughout the entire district.
I have had children in this school for 4 years and I have always recieved a class newsletter or something of that sort in their Friday folders. I have never had a problem with knowing what is going on in their classroom or what they are currently learning. And any time I may have had a question regarding my child or their academic standings, the teachers have always been more than willing to get together by phone or in person to talk about it.
Cougar is a great school all around. The teachers are wonderful - caring and nurturing and very available to the parents. The parallel block system works well -every child gets whole group and small group time in math, reading/language arts etc, plus computer lab every day. They have a large library and use the Accelerated Reader program too. And my kids truly enjoy the music and art programs as well. Of course they get Science and Social Studies too. Both of my children have thrived here (my last one has one more year). Unlike a school we were in previously, here they are very open to parental involvement. You can come and just have lunch, volunteer in your child's classroom, get involved in the PTO or any of several regular activities. Cougar is a great place to learn, as well as have fun and make good friends (for kids and parents).
This school is absolutely beautiful! We are thrilled that our children small reading classes in a public school setting. Even our kindergarten student has a technology clas each day.
I am disappointed. There is no curriculum given to me until I ask for one. SPECIFIC (not general)SPECIFIC Information on lessons for each week should be given in advance to parents, like every FRIDAY so on a weekend parents can have a specific idea how to help their child on the upcoming lesson on each subject. I think what I meant is 'STUDY GUIDES' must be required to all the TEACHERS and be provided to parents in advance per subject. This is the only way I can help my child be at their BEST and perform well on all task given by the teacher/school daily. Otherwise, there is no other way of me knowing what my child is learning each week in school. Example: Wk of April 11-15 Math-Subtraction,Reading-Story Main idea...,Science-About Temperature, Social Studies-About Egypt, etc. I hope that COUGAR will acknowldege my request for next school year. Many thanks!
This is my childs last year in that school, and hopefully the last year in Manassas Park all together. I have to admit he has a wonderful teacher this year and last year. Before that he had a teacher that lied, didn't tell me everything that I needed to know, until it ws to late to help my child. I would never move here if I already didn't live here, and I can't wait to get out.
