Great school and great learning system. I would recommend to all.

Mount Calvary Sunbeam Christian Academy is the best kept secret in northern VA! The class sizes are small and the administrators and teachers have a personal realtionship with all the parents. I chose this school because I have friends and their childern attended the k-4, and the next year the k-5 class. When their child tested for 1st grade in public school, she tested 3rd grade level! My child is now experiencing the same results. The children here are more diciplined and better behaved. My child is learning more in a shorter peroid of time. The older children are a postive infulence on my child. At the k-5 graduation, I witnessed k-4 students reading and speaking spanish quite well. I also witnessed several k-5 students playing musical instruments and reciting bible verses on demand. Their computer lab is unmatched. They represent the future for all private schools.

The educational opportunities at Mt. Calvery are minimal at best. Discipline and structure are lax. Although there are some good teachers here, the over-all quality of instruction is poor. Children who leave to attend public education find themselves well below level and many are retained or put in remedial courses. Priorities are not uniform and too much time is spent off task in some classrooms. For the at-risk child that needs nuturing, there are caretakers on this campus but the real need of smaller classrooms is not provided. Teachers cannot meet the real needs of the children because of this. This is not a school for any child seeking to advance his academics.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
