This school is terrible especially if you are an African-American. They purposely try to fail all African-Americans. My children went to high school at Fort Chiswell and so did I. Things really changed after Mrs. Jackson retired. The school became more racially biased and the teachers are less prepared than other schools. One of my sons finally had to graduate from PCHS because of the poor leadership and constant harassment from the principle and the resource officer. I hate to see a school that I loved so much totally go downhill.
This school definetly does not prepare students for a college education. I know many students who have graduated from FCHS and have trouble doing simple math still today. Students who have graduated and went on to college and had to repeat classes at the college that they had already taken at FCHS because they didnt know how to do the work. The prinicpal is a joke..someone else definetly needs to be running the school who actually cares about the students and not just the football jocks!
Fort Chiswell is a joke. Having completed my Bachelor's at a mid-sized university, I can say without doubt that FCHS does not prepare students for college or any sort of advanced students. Classes are entirely too easy, the class offerings are extremely limited, and there is little to no room for student activism or growth. The entire environment is threatening-- hardly a welcoming place for racial minorities, those of non-heterosexual orientation, and non-protestant students.
I have children who attended this school over a period of 7 years. During that time only two teachers have contacted me regarding academic issues. These two teachers are professionals who have demonstrated dedication to ensuring that every student have opportunities to succeed in their classroom and are willing to 'go the extra mile' to improve the chance of success. To improve parental involvement teachers should communicate on a regular basis with parents of every student regarding the student's progress, even those students who are excelling.
I went to this school it is a great school. The faculty is great and are football team was rather good and are SOL scores where always better than alot of school in Wythe County so we have a very high standard school.
